I wanted to take the opportunity to share the 4 books I liked reading this year across various topics like business, success, and leadership among others (This is my 9th year of sharing my favorite books of the year). Most of them are business books which are my preferred genre. Here are the books I liked reading in 2023 and also at the bottom you have my favorite books from 2015 till 2022.
The Wisdom of the Bull Frog by Admiral William H. McRaven –?This is a great simple book on what it takes to be a leader. He starts with first suggesting it should be death before dishonor. We should all live by our highest ideals and stay in complete integrity. Leaders should have high energy which is a key to sustain the team over the long haul. You should always seem in control as that is what is expected of leaders. It is a pretty good and breezy read.
Emotional Intelligence Habits by Dr. Travis Bradberry –?This is a really comprehensive to develop emotional intelligence and be a better leader. There are some great hacks here which I found useful. One thing as leaders we miss is self-awareness and that is one of the important keys to success. The other often neglected thing is sleep and we really need to take care of our cognitive abilities by sleeping well. Exercise is another great tool to be at your best. There is lots of information and nuggets on self-confidence and happiness as well.
Intrinsic Motivation by Stefan Falk–?This is an interesting book and the key takeaway for me was don't get bored in life. Keep setting bigger goals and have a game plan every day on what you want done. It is easy to plateau in our lives but we need to reignite our lives with greater purpose and bigger goals. Once you find the why of your life you will find the intrinsic motivation to tap dance to your work daily. The good thing about this book is it puts the onus on us to achieve what we want from our lives.
The Song of Significance by Seth Godin–?I have enjoyed a number of Seth Godin's books. He makes an interesting case about how we need to enable everyone in the workforce to feel significant about their work and contribution. The factory model is no longer valid and we should enable creativity through psychological safety. The basic premise is to enable everyone to produce their best work every day. Once people know their work matters significance follows
I think you might find some of these interesting to put on your reading list.
Here are the other books I liked right from 2015 to 2022.
