4 Beliefs We Need to Shift— If We Want to Win

4 Beliefs We Need to Shift— If We Want to Win

Leading your company through a sale or exit is about more than meeting all the daily challenges. It's about cultivating an 'epic' mindset— one that creates fierce self-belief, and inspires the belief of others.

The biggest day in your career won't be a fluke. It will be the next logical step in a series of great days.

To set the stage for more consistent great days, we'll need to look closely at the 4 most common beliefs that hold us back.

Are you ready?

FALSE. Your inherent value has always been, and will always be within you. It's a gift from God you didn't need to ask for or earn. When it comes to business success, your value is cumulative.?

It includes your most recent wins, but more importantly, it includes everything you've learned from your failures.

THE SHIFT: Spend less time proving how valuable you are, and more time knowing how valuable and blessed you are.

Practices that help the shift:

  1. Gratitude journaling
  2. Unscheduled weekends with your kids.
  3. Volunteer work, philanthropy

FALSE. Your success and failures require building the capacity in everyone you lead. The weight we assume is ours to carry is our false burden of responsibility. We can still be plenty responsible without the burden of carrying all the weight! Leadership is the responsibility we take for building capacity in everyone— well beyond ourselves.

Fragile leaders call it "duty". I call that doody. ?? There is a razor-thin line between duty and doody.

THE SHIFT: There is someone, somewhere on your team that loves to do the thing you're hoarding. It's time to trust, and empower others to <gasp!> DO IT WAY BETTER THAN YOU EVER COULD.

Practices that help the shift:

  1. Delegation of anything that happens in a computer.
  2. Days full of "light-touch / high-leverage" conversations.
  3. Look back on, and heal a wound from your earlier career. Self-forgiveness sounds fluffy. Once you're in it you realize how brave it is.

FALSE. You will create the time you need for what is most important to you. This is a game of focus and priorities. Give yourself Permission to Chill first— to remember you've always had all the time you needed to create a great life. "Hustle and grind" is so outdated and unsustainable. zzz zzz.

THE SHIFT: All of us have the same 24 hours, so why am I addicted to the overwhelm? Wait, there's a predictable cycle— so I can intervene, or break it?

Practices that help the shift:

  1. Mapping your overwhelm cycle (*Accomplishment Coaching process)
  2. Daily meditation habit. Minimum 15 min per day, 7 days a week. No excuses.
  3. More gratitude for what you got you this far. Celebrating all the wins.

Chill + Flow is our new operating system for 2023. The most successful leaders I coach choose Right Action over "action for action's sake" every day of the week. We go deep into mindset tools and practices on our retreats— Coming up is Heal To Glow, April 27-30 in Encinitas, CA. Limited to 6 clients Or, "The 4 Permissions" at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health , May 8-12 in Western Mass.

FALSE. Who better to know what it takes, than you? Seriously. You just need consistency. Your goals need the consistency of you being YOU— with your unique, unlimited power and potential.

Meditation and coaching transform all of the above.?

THE SHIFT: Audacious leaders who create the impossible ask themselves the audacious questions daily: "What if I've been preparing for this my entire life? What if my life has been preparing me? What's my next tiny, bold move?"

Practices that help the shift:

  1. Print and post the audacious questions above. Answer them constantly.
  2. Complete a "ruthless self-knowledge" scavenger hunt. Make a 1-sheet of every possible aspect of your personality strengths. Starting with Enneagram.
  3. Be coachable.

At the end of the day, my clients who've created staggering success are just great human beings— first. They are willing to be coached, and open to constant feedback from all sides.

I'm hired and retained to create results. However, it's client coachability that is the true x-factor. Their openness to the process can make it feel like a game, or quest— versus pushing some heavy boulder up another hill.

Be. Coachable.

This isn't theory. It is testimony. Epic leadership is the game our team lives to work in as coaches and meditation teachers for epic leaders.

Which of these bogus beliefs slow you down the most??

Are you finally ready to relax, or release these??
