4 Basic Public Speaking Skills Every Speaker Must Have ???????

1 - Learn from the experience of Others?

>> Listen to other people stories on how they master public speaking. What are the pain points, like overcoming frozen fear/butterflies in gut/natural shyness/introvert personality etc. How had they overcome these pain points?

>> I love to listen to President/CEO/Director/General Manager or Moderator speeches; they have the right skills and use the right words to project their idea and influence. This can be learned through effective listening and taking notes.

2. Keep Your Goal as Priority

>> Have you ever imagined yourself as effective speaker??

>> Do you think you can influence or inspiring others through public speaking?

>> Do you want to increase your confident level?

If you answer yes, you are making meaning of public speaking which is to effectively deliver your idea, message and vision. Therefore, if you have the goal, you will find a way to increase your skill in public speaking.

3. Setting Your Mind to Success

>> It is common for some of people to have doubt on his/her ability in public speaking. One tends to think about the bad thing that could happen on stage.

>> It is importance to focus on what we think. What we think will lead us to success or failure. In any case, if we successfully deliver a speech, it is credit to us but if we screw up on stage at least we learnt a lesson and improve ourselves in the next round. Start with first changing our thoughts then eventually we can change our experience in public speaking.?

>> My personal journey in public speaking is not easy because I used to be negative and think about catastrophic thing that will happen when I deliver a speech. But along the way, I found out that, as human if we pause, if we loss words on what we want to share during public speaking, it is ok to do so. Actually, you will be more engaging. You are showing some flaws as human and people love to see for you to be yourselves on stage and show more human traits. A perfect and flawless speech is excellent as it showcases your talent and credibility, however to achieve this you will have to learn from mistakes & experiences. Don't get me wrong, I myself just one step ahead from you in Public Speaking, still a lot of things need to improve and that's why I made this article. Let's do this together!

4. Take Every Opportunity to Practice

>> Many of times, I was the person nominated by others, be it my university mates, my peers, or my managers to do presentation. I do not have self-belief that I am good at public speaking or presentation skill until a friend of mind tell me that I am very good at it. Thank you to my dear friend, Phoon Yong Keng for this feedback. I took it as a credit and start to polish my skill. I did mess up up along the way, but I really love to take opportunity because one of my teachers used to say ''Don't let go any opportunity that comes, normally it would not come twice!''

>> Recently, I delivered a Keynote Speech at International Business Conference organized by University Malaysia Pahang (UMP). It was an ad hoc request because a Professor from Khalifa University withdrawn from being the Keynote Speaker. I hesitated at the beginning because I fear of replacing a university professor but because it is a good opportunity I just did it anyway!?Alhamdulillah it went well.

The feedbacks were encouraging because the audience like to listen Keynote Speech from the industrial professional. There were a lot of questions at the end of my Keynote Speech. To be able to seize the opportunity, we can start small by volunteering to do HSSE sharing moments or technical presentations for projects, SPE Technical Paper presentation and volunteer as MC/moderator in various society activities. All in all, everything starts with your willingness to develop public speaking skill. Let's kick start with this amazing adventure in which will empower your self-direction and vision. This will keep you grow successfully with time.
