ARE YOU PUTTING YOURSELF IN AN ADVANTAGEOUS POSITION IN YOUR ACTING CAREER?

Despite the staggering amount of competition actors deal with to get roles; the fact is, many actors don't hit these 4 criteria of being a successful working actor, which puts actors that DO at a major advantage.

1) TALENT & TRAINING

Many enter acting without ANY training or experience while expecting representation. Successful actors have invested in training and learning this art form AND industry inside and out! They are passionate about continuing to learn and evolve, and even use every movie and TV show as an opportunity to learn and be inspired by other actors. They take this work seriously which will always enhance and add to their natural talent.

 2) INTENTION

Surprisingly, not many new actors are completely motivated by the craft, the art of storytelling and using their body as an instrument to entertain & make people feel. More are enticed by the fantasy/illusion of fame, glamour, and wealth and have no idea how hard it is to really sustain themselves in the industry. If your intention is more about art and less about external rewards, you are already ahead of the game.

 3) BUSINESS-SAVVY &  PROFESSIONALISM

There are some very creative people out there who have put a very low priority in being self-motivated, organized and business savvy. Being a professional actor means thinking on your feet, asking the right questions, looking out for your career (as a business), while still being a good person/artist - it's no different than any other real career. Although creative and rewarding, working actors know there is a high level of responsibility, self-regulation and management required to thrive in this field.

 4) SELF-AWARENESS

It's great to believe in yourself and make sure it's balanced with real world feedback. Knowing your type, your impact, and how to market yourself is very important. Some people overestimate their abilities or do not have a clear view on how they are perceived by others - which means they often submit for projects that are not even a fit for their type. Self-aware people have a grounded perspective on what they can realistically offer and hone in on.
