The problems with being your own coach…?

1) There’s a limit to how hard you will push yourself.?

People tell me they want to write books. Many people’s first book idea is some form of their personal story. I ask how long it will take for them to finish writing it. The answer is often some number of months.?

MONTHS? To tell a story that you know 100% of????

What do you need months for? There’s no research needed. There are no outside sources. You are literally writing down your life. You could write the first draft of your life story in a week. You can voice-record it and have it transcribed.?

We humans have a self-protecting mechanism within us that keeps us from purposely injuring ourselves (or what we perceive to be injuring ourselves). That’s why people who self-mutilate have serious mental issues. In a normal mental state, you wouldn't hurt yourself.?

What you currently see as “too much” needs to be your new normal.?

2) You will go further, faster, with someone else pushing you.?

That “someone else” can be an opponent, a coach, a teammate, and opponent, even a parent. We are social beings, and our standing amongst and in the eyes of others matters to us.?

Unfortunately, many people are so addicted to the comfort of your normal pace (doing things slowly and “later on”), that you will do anything to avoid that push.?

3) All the stuff that you “already know” you need to do provides a modicum of satisfaction for you, as you at least “know” what needs to be done.?

Problem is, many people with this mindset never DO the stuff they know they need to do. Or they're slow as hell in doing it (i.e. taking months to do what should take days).?

I just came from a business conference with 7,000 attendees. More than half of those I spoke to (I speak to 100+ people when I go to events) laughed in spite of themselves when I asked what their next action step was. Most told me they just needed to finally implement stuff that they already knew about BEFORE attending the conference.?

The key to multiplying your results with speed is to basically do the OPPOSITE of the above 3 points.?

1) Don’t do things by yourself.?

2) Get pushed by an external force.?

3) What you get DONE >>>> What you “already know” you need to do.

How does this happen??

Let’s start with this: Stop doing what you've been doing, because we already know the result of that.?
