3rd International Conference dedicated to the Day of Tajik Geology

The 3rd annual international conference dedicated to the Day of Tajik Geology was held at the Mining-metallurgical institute of Tajikistan . This event has become traditional and attracts more and more participants yearly, including leading specialists and scientists from abroad. The Co-organizer of the conference was University of Central Asia

The theme of this year's conference was "Development of National Industry and Geology of Tajikistan during the Years of Independence". The event brought together representatives of scientific circles, industry leaders and students united by a common interest in the development of geology and industry.

The grand opening with a welcoming speech by the rector of the Mining-metallurgical institute of Tajikistan Doctor of Economics, Professor Bakhtiyor Mahmadali Nabi, welcomed and congratulated all participants on the Day of Tajik Geology.

The editor-in-chief of the regional newspaper "Sogdiyskaya Pravda" Zakirov Iskhokdzhon also made a welcoming speech, noting the importance of holding conferences in these areas. He emphasized that such events contribute to the expansion of international cooperation and the development of scientific research.

Professor Mohssen Moazzen , Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Central Asia (UCA), congratulated all participants on the Tajik Geology Day and expressed gratitude to the conference organizers. He noted that this is the second year that UCA has been co-hosting and co-organizing the conference with the MMIT. The professor emphasized that he was pleased to see how Earth and environmental sciences are actively developing and expressed confidence in the continuation of fruitful cooperation with the Mining-metallurgical institute of Tajikistan .

“I participated in the conference last year, but unfortunately I could not come this year. However, I am convinced that the cooperation between our universities will contribute to the further development of Earth and environmental sciences,” said Dr. Moazzen.

Karen Hangh?j , Director of the British Geological Survey (BGS), delivered an impactful speech addressing the challenges and opportunities in the field of geoscience. She highlighted the critical role of geoscience in tackling global issues, including resource management, environmental sustainability, and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Hangh?j emphasized the importance of innovation, collaboration, and data-driven solutions to address these challenges effectively. She also underscored the need for fostering partnerships across disciplines, sectors, and borders to build resilient systems.

  • Mohammed Javad Zeinalabidin, PhD in Engineering, Director of the Institute of Geology and Oil and Gas (Iraq).
  • Then Yuri Petrovich Panov, Rector of the Russian State Geological Prospecting University named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze, spoke. He noted the importance of cooperation between universities and highly praised the holding of this conference.

Professor Harsha Ratnaweera , Professor of Water and Wastewater Engineering at the NMBU - Norwegian University of Life Sciences , Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Director of the Board of the International Water Association , highlighted Tajikistan's water resources in his speech. He also highlighted the long-standing cooperation between MMIT scientists and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences within the framework of the Water Harmony project. In conclusion, the professor drew attention to current trends such as the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the water sector and other industries, emphasizing that these technologies can make the sector more efficient and cost-effective.

Then the following speakers spoke:

Bie Wei, environmental engineer, Professional Technical University of Natural Resources and Ecology, Lanzhou, China.

Martynov Alexander Sergeevich, leading geologist of the Geological Exploration Department, LUKOIL-Engineering LLC, Tyumen.

Nadzhmiddinova Asliddin Abdukhakimovich, head of the international cooperation department, Termez State University of Engineering and Agricultural Technology.

After the plenary speeches, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Mining-Metallurgical Institute of Tajikistan and Termez State University of Engineering and Agricultural Technology.

?? Significance of the conference: The conference confirms the status of Tajikistan as an important centre of geological science. The development of international cooperation and the exchange of advanced knowledge contribute to strengthening the position of the republic on the world stage.

After the plenary session, well-known scientists from the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Programme , the University of Central Asia, Khorog State University and other universities from all over the world made presentations.

T.M Kamuyanja, co-author with Brindha Karthikeyan and T. Stigter from IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, Delft, Netherlands, presented on the topic "Spatial-temporal trend analysis of groundwater level response to rainfall in Tamil Nadu, India".

The topic: "Interactions between lentic and lotic water bodies: A case study of the Quillow watershed, Germany" was presented by Yoshua Raphael Ndolcleu, co-author with Majid Taie Semiromi', Jochen Wenninger' and Brindha Karthikeyan, from the University of Dar es Salaam, Oar es salaam-Tanzania, Department of Water Resources and Ecosystems, IHE Institute for Water Education, Delft, The Netherlands 'Hydrogeology Group, Institute of Geological Sciences, Freie Universitat Berlin, Berlin, Germany
