3rd Express Entry Draw of April

IRCC has issued invitations to apply (ITAs) to Express Entry candidates. This was the third draw of the month.

In a general draw, the authorities issued a total of 2,095 ITAs.

Candidates needed a least CRS score of 529 to be eligible.

The other two draws of the month were on April 10 and 11.

In the April 10 draw, 1,280 candidates were invited from all Express Entry programs, which was a general draw. The minimum CRS score required was 549, the highest so far in 2024. This was a big increase from the previous draw on March 25. Then, candidates needed a minimum score of 524.

This month's other draw was the Year's first category-based draw of Express Entry candidates. They qualified for category-based selection for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) jobs. The department invited 4,500 candidates who scored at least 491 on the CRS.

What is category-based selection?

IRCC introduced category-based selection draws in May 2023. They use them to target Express Entry candidates with highly in-demand human capital attributes, like language ability or occupation.

The categories for 2023 were finalized after consultations with IRCC partners and stakeholders. In 2024, the department announced that the same categories would be used throughout the year.

  • Healthcare occupations
  • Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  • Trades occupations, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
  • Transport occupations
  • Agriculture and agri-food occupations
  • Strong French proficiency

Candidates in occupation-based categories need at least six months of full-time work experience. It must be in an eligible occupation in the past three years.

Eligible people for French proficiency must have French test results. They must have a minimum score of 7 in all 4 language abilities on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is a system for managing immigration applications. It is for candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

Candidates who qualify for one of these programs can create a profile on the IRCC website. They receive scores based on factors like age, language skills, education, work experience, and job. These scores are added up to find their final Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

Candidates with the top scores are more likely to get an invitation to apply for permanent residency in Canada. Once issued an ITA, they submit their final application to IRCC, which aims to process it within six months.
