3ONE | Weekly Feature | Celebrating Women's Month
Women's month commemorates the bravado of women who marched for change, demanding equality and recognition of women's rights in 1956. We recognise and appreciate the privilege we bask in today as we enjoy the fruits of their efforts.
In celebration and commemoration of this tremendous effort and achievement, this August, we are doing a weekly feature of the women in our organisation. We ask them questions on Women’s Month and about themselves. This week's feature is our Actuarial Analyst Jacqui van Eeden .
As a woman in STEM, how does the theme, “Digit4ALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality’ speak to you?
Digitalisation of areas such as training, education, and access to data should be used to create opportunities for both men and women and it should be ensured that women aren’t left behind in this regard. The significant contributions made by women to STEM fields should be celebrated and recognised, in order to inspire and empower future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM.
What is the significance of National Women's Day and Women’s Month to you?
Women’s Day and Month hold immense importance as they serve as dedicated periods to recognise and celebrate the achievements of women, as well as to raise awareness about gender equality. Women should be encouraged to pursue their dreams, ambitions, and passions without limitations, and I believe that Women’s Day and Month are a great way to encourage this.?
Define women’s empowerment and equality – and the difference if there is any?

How do you empower yourself and the women around you?
I think it is very important that women as well as men empower each other, and that one should not have a victim mentality, but rather a warrior mentality. I try and surround myself with people that empower me and treat me as equal, while providing the same treatment to those around me.
Which two SuperSHero characters resonate with you the most, and why??
My granny is definitely my number one SuperShero. She is a warm-hearted, wise and resilient individual, spreading love and joy wherever she goes. She is always empowering those around her and helping everyone where she can.
Secondly, I think Jacinda Ardern resonates with me given her charismatic optimism, down-to-earth charm, and empathetic leadership.
What are you currently reading or listening to? If nothing, what is your favourite book and song and why?
I am currently listening to a podcast named “The School of Greatness”, where some of the most successful people on the planet are interviewed. Topics covered include overcoming fear, managing relationships, love, success, business and more. I truly believe that podcasts like these inspire people to grow and lead better lives. I am not able to list one favourite song, as I probably have over 100 favourite songs at the moment!
When you are not pursuing professional goals, where can we expect to find you??
You will find me somewhere on the planet, busy travelling and exploring the beautiful world that exists around us and being adventurous. If not, you will find me with the people that I love (and do not forget about my two beautiful dogs)!
