3K tonnes of unflushables
Castle Water
The UK's largest independent business water supplier & the only water retailer that will give you an instant online.
According to Anglian Water, in the last 12 months, 3,000 tonnes of unflushable items were flushed in East England alone. If the same amount of unflushables are entering the sewerage system all over the country, then we have a serious problem that highlights the need for better wastewater management nationwide. That huge amount is not only damaging the environment, but it’s also increasing the likelihood of leaks and blockages.
Here are just some of the reasons that you need to make sure that you, and those working at your business, aren't sending unflushables down the drain.
Blockages, leaks, and damaged piping
If staff members are flushing away anything that isn't supposed to be flushed they could end up damaging your business’s piping. From leakages to blockages you could end up spending a significant amount of money on an issue that is easily avoidable.
Leaks, for example, while seemingly insignificant, can quickly intensify and drastically increase your monthly water bills. The more unflushables you have going through your piping, the more likely a blockage, leak, or bust is to occur.
While your water supplier may offer you leak assistance, you don't want to be using it on a leak that could have been avoided.

Fines
It costs more than £100 million to clear blockages in drainage pipes every year and often there are better alternatives for unflushables - typically the bin. The toilet is not a bin and shouldn't be treated as such. While that wet wipe you flushed away is out of sight and out of mind, it may cause a local blockage that comes back to bite you.
In certain instances fines have been handed out for blockages caused by unflushables - so make sure everyone understands they need to bin the unflushables!
Environmental consequences
It’s important for businesses to remain environmentally responsible, part of which entails preventing leaks and blockages. You need to stay on top of what is and isn't flushed. If it is traced back to your business it could have negative repercussions for your reputation.
