I get it. I've heard that for years. I've felt the hardship when going on a call with a prospect only to realize a half hour in that they can't afford your services.

But what if I told you there was a better way? Not even just a win-win. But a triple win.

WHY: I thought of a way to help someone out for free - while showing them and others your expertise and thus earning more business for you. A triple win!

And here's the thing. I'm not talking giving up your day job to help for free. I'm talking those things you know so well, that you can at least point it out and why it's important in a few minutes. Yet the impact to the recipient could be huge!

I'm not talking a complete makeover or hours of work. Just 3 simple tips that could be the difference between a job seeker getting a job or a small business getting a prospect or help in running his/her business.

Here's an example. If someone came to me for #3freetips on their profile, but had no picture, a boring headline and a missing summary, I'd quickly point out they needed to fix them as they are one of the first things people see. That much. That fast. The work is now on the recipient. But they know something actionable they can do to improve.

So this is what I'm proposing. A challenge, really. I'm not asking you to give away the kitchen sink. Nor spend all your free time doing it. But give a few moments when someone tags you with #3freetips and offer that person a deliberate act of kindness. Some actionable tips.

HOW

1. Perhaps share a post or article - even one you've already done
2. Or, do your magic in plain site - if you can if it is kind and wouldn't make anyone look bad (keep it kind and constructive. :)
3. Even better, take it up a notch and ask them to Connect or DM you - which adds to your network, takes it offline, and allows you both more potential opportunity

RESULT

If the person is happy with what you offered, perhaps they'll repay the kindness. Perhaps they'll even mention you. I could see a possible recommendation.
