3E Model of Human Resource

Every domain requires certain characteristics / personality traits in order to work smoothly and gain success. Same is the case with Human Resource (HR). While it is important to have the basic information about the work, processes and challenges but their are some crucial aspects rather 'human' aspects to it as well. Human Resource is often mis-understood domain and have certain notions/stereotypes about it. I have been lucky enough to be part of HR Team of two leading apparel brands and the fastest growing startup in India. Based on my experience I have come up with 3E Model of HR which are important for anyone who wishes to be part of this fraternity. Let's look at them one by one:

  • Empathy - HR is completely a people oriented profile. Humans are social animal and have emotions / compassion. Lets dive deep and dissect further;Recruitment requires one to be sensitive while approaching prospective employee;Induction and Training needs to be completely employee oriented/friendly;Business Partnering is all about providing comfort to employees/ business leaders and addressing their grievances;HR is window to organisation for any external stakeholders, hence it needs to be managed well. Being empathetic will help to deal with various aspects of HR and in smooth processing.
  • Endurance - On one hand we have to match the right fitment for a role/profile and on other we need let go of the misfit employee. Every Industry / Domain has certain set of rules which we have to adhere. As part of the HR, we are bound to take some critical decisions (maintaining departmental hiring budget, resizing, restructuring) for the betterment of organisations as a whole. Which needs to endured and embraced. Taking tough decisions is part of the job and inseparable. It's important to embrace it but empathetically.
Endurance is patience concentrated.
  • Empowerment - HR is highly empowered and empowering fraternity. One is suppose to maintain trackers, data base management system, reimbursements, salary payout, employee details and many more. All these are every personal matter for every person / employee. Being thorough with hiring trackers, salary details, professional background of employees and anticipating upcoming challenges and changes in the market will come handy while dealing with stakeholders and senior level management. Not to forget, a good hands on excel /google sheets will always be an add on.
Self-education is self-empowerment.

All 3 E's have their own importance and are must to develop for any HR Professional. It's difficult to manage all initially but with time and right guidance its manageable. I have been fortunate to have have good mentors guiding me throughout.
