3DEXPERIENCE World 2020

3DEXPERIENCE World 2020

3DEXPERIENCE World event is a global celebration of design, innovation, and passion powered by Dassault Systèmes and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. 3DEXPERIENCE World is a place for engineers, designers, and decision-makers who are all keen to learn about the latest tools, techniques, and technologies to accelerate and improve the way they design. It is three days full of general sessions, technical training, networking, fun and much more! This year, it was in Nashville with over 6,000 customers, partners, employees, press and value-added resellers attending, and it was the best event ever!

“Welcome to 3DEXPERIENCE World - A new and expanded SOLIDWORKS experience, Welcome to our SOLIDWORKS Community, DELMIAWORKS, ENOVIA, SIMULIA Community! You are all part of the WORKS Community. Because we are adding the power of the Dassault Systèmes brands to the DNA of SOLIDWORKS” - these were the SOLIDWORKS- 3DEXPERIENCE WORKS CEO Gian Paolo Bassi’s opening words on Day One of the mega-events.

Are you getting excited? Well, I hope you are! Let me share with you what happened during the Dassault Systèmes’ biggest event 3DEXPERIENCE World 2020 at Nashville, TN.

Day One at 3DEXPERIENCE World 2020 kicked off with an opening address by Gian Paolo. He promised to attendees that Dassault Systèmes will continue to help them in their journey to grow professionally, learn better and build new relationships. Also, we shall help them to be inspired to make their dreams come true and go build a better world for all of us.

After Gian Paolo Bassi’s Welcome Address, Bernard Charles came to the stage and shared Dassault Systèmes’s vision for empowering SOLIDWORKS users to dream bigger about the future. This future is at the intersection of technology and humanity. The two mesh to open a new world of possibilities and progress that is uniquely human.

There was no stronger and more emotional example of this convergence than the Magic Wheelchair. Christine Getman, Executive Director, Magic Wheelchair, and Chinloo Lama, Director of User Experience Design, Dassault Systèmes, joined Bernard on stage to share an inspiring story of epic inclusion. Magic Wheelchair aims to provide every kid in wheelchair with an epic costume that echoes her /his dreams and passions, and that too, at no cost to the parents. They deliver on this wonderful mission by connecting volunteer ‘makers’ with kids designing these costumes with help our software solutions. The project is being accelerated by the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab and supported by La Foundation.

After these amazing stories, Gian Paolo came back to the stage and talked about the next generation of SOLIDWORKS product portfolio. He described 3DEXPERIENCE WORKS as the most impressive expansion of the SOLIDWORKS portfolio to date. New tools available to SOLIDWORKS users now include some of the most powerful applications from ENOVIA, SIMULIA, and DELMIAWORKS.

Gian Paolo explained how 3DEXPERIENCE WORKS saves time for the users, facilitating connection, integration, automation. He went on to announce that in summer 2020, we will release three 3DEXPERIENCE WORKS offers in the market. He also announced that starting the first day of the event until March 3rd 3D Creator and 3D Sculptor will be directly available for online purchases.

Then Gian Paolo invited to the stage Mike Schultz, who is Paralympic Gold and Silver Medalist, 10 time X Games Gold medalist, and Founder and Inventor of BioDapt. In 2008, Schultz lost his leg in a snowmobiling accident. Ten years later, he won a gold medal at the Paralympic Games using a prosthetic leg he designed in his garage using SOLIDWORKS. Today Mike’s company makes prosthetics for people from around the world. He even works with fellow athletic competitors. Further, Mike has collaborated with the Center for Advanced Designs to continue his prosthetic evolution by using next-gen SOLIDWORKS tools, such as 3D Sculptor. Gian Paolo introduced Matt Carney, who has a Ph.D. from MIT and is working to connect cybernetic interfaces to the human body; enabling direct control of robotic limbs. Matt is focused on the future of prosthetics and eventually creating full biological capabilities in artificial limbs. Gian Paolo stimulated these great minds to collaborate and promised to have a follow-up at 3DEXPERIENCE World 2021.

The Day 1 general session closed with a presentation from Charles Adler, founder of Kickstarter. Adler is dedicated to enabling creative people to exceed their potential. A key takeaway from his presentation was the impact of Kickstarter. The platform truly connected people beyond money or good. It connected people at a personal level – love for a craft or a project.

On Day 2, we had two parallel sessions, ‘Innovate with the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform’ and ‘DELMIAWORKS’ for former IQMS event attendees.

Gian Paolo Bassi introduced ‘Innovate with the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform’ session as the most important session at this year’s event.

Florence Hu-Aubigny, Dassault Systèmes Executive Vice President, Research and Development, opened and managed the session with her great R&D team. This R&D session was especially critical for getting familiar with the capabilities of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and understanding how entire organizations can leverage 3DEXPERIENCE WORKS today.

We also had a customer panel on day 2, wherein we had four customers from different countries with one aim. They shared their journey as SOLIDWORKS users who have successfully adopted 3DEXPERIENCE solutions. This session way moderated by Injy Gadalla from Dassault Systèmes.

In parallel on Tuesday morning, we had a DELMIA WORKS session with nearly 300 DELMIA WORKS customers joining forces for the first time with SOLIDWORKS users at 3DEXPERIENCE World. Steve Bieszczat, Chief Marketing Officer of DELMIA WORKS, kicked things off by welcoming everyone and reiterating the company’s mission to address the MES & ERP needs of the 250,000 small to mid-sized manufacturing companies over the world.

Wednesday’s closing General Session kicked off with Suchit Jain, Dassault Systèmes VP of Strategy and Business Development highlighting how we work with and empower user communities across the globe. Suchit showcased the passion of our users which often starts at a young age when they are in school. Also, our users carry their passion both at work and projects at home. Their dedication towards collaborating with new minds and creating something wonderful truly sets these communities apart.

Our first guest speaker was Sam Rogers from Gravity, a startup from the UK for whom even the sky is not the limit, literally. They make Jet suits that are trying to achieve the next frontier in human flight. Sam shared the company’s design process and incredible journey from across fields and lakes to successful distance flights, and successfully designing and fabricating their current version of the jet suit.

Next up was the 3DEXPERIENCE Pitch Battle. Four startups voted by the audience and the best two evaluated by the judges. The winner was a Winter Innovations, makers of EasyWhip, a patent-pending suturing needle designed to make whip stitching in orthopedic surgery easier.

And then came one of the best moments of the event. The legendary, Dean Kamen, founder of DEKA and FIRST Robotics, inventor of Insulin Pump and a STEM champion, was on stage in front of a packed audience. His talk covered a handful of the many innovations he has been involved with over the years but really focused on the theme of imagination and inspiration.

Technical, Reseller, Education Sessions and more

This year’s event had 350 technical sessions – an impressive 50 % increase in the number of sessions compared to previous years. The 3DEXPERIENCE World training agenda was built to ensure the attendees get to experience the latest innovations in 3D design, data management, simulation, and manufacturing. We offered lecture-style breakouts, hands-on workshops, and expert-led panel discussions, each ranging from 30 to 90 minutes in length so that people could tailor their learning experience during the event. To help them to choose, we had categorized these 350 technical sessions so no matter what their experience level was, they could learn from subject matter experts.

We believe that earning Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS certification can help users get a job, keep a job, or possibly move up in their current role within their company. On Sunday before the main event, more than 300 people took certification exams 160 passed and walked away with certification including CSWP's, CSWA's, and Platform Explorer Associates. Incredible!

One of our highest priorities at SOLIDWORKS is to help students build the career of their dreams. With that goal in mind, we invited students to attend 3DEXPERIENCE World for free. We helped them by organizing a job fair and panel discussions relevant to their journey to be great engineers. This year we had more than 200 students who joined in.

The 3DEXPERIENCE Playground was a huge techno fair, full of hardware and software solutions that showcase the entire spectrum of innovative technologies we, at Dassault Systèmes, enable. We had 77 exhibitors this year, all excited to show their solutions to attendees.

New this year, we featured the 3DEXPERIENCE for Good Hackathon and other interactive experiences that pull together the most passionate minds to do GOOD. We had a bigger Shop Floor, XR zone, Education Zone, Mobile FabLab and SOLIDWORKS Live Studio and Model mania Challenge in the 3DEXPERIENCE Playground.

Bernard Charles began his presentation with a big ‘I LOVE YOU’ towards the audience. I believe that this is the keyword to be successful: love. We need to love what we are doing and love whom we are working for; our users. We embark on 3DEXPERIENCE World 2021 with the great momentum and excitement that started at 3DEXPERIENCE World 2020. Join me in showing the world how we can help our users to do more and reach further to improve the world around with excitement, enthusiasm, and most importantly, with love.
