We are excited to announce that Rich Cameron and I recently completed a custom additive manufacturing curriculum for Desktop Metal. The material covers the basics of additive manufacturing, design for additive, and includes examples and open-ended design exercises. Students can take a deep dive into these topics with materials tailored to the unique specifics of the Desktop Metal Studio, Shop, and Fiber Systems. We created it to either stand alone, or for its modular elements to be incorporated easily into an existing college engineering or technician curriculum.?
That last point is something we have learned is key in creating materials to teach additive. There may be some institutions that have courses just on additive, but more typically it is added into existing courses on manufacturing techniques or material sciences. We hope the materials will support many students (and faculty) who are getting started with metal or fiber.
Pierre Devaux, Director of Education Markets at Desktop Metal, will be joining us on our next LinkedIn Learning Office Hour, Thursday June 16 at noon Pacific time, to talk about 3D printing in education. Register to join us!?
Of course, regardless of which printer you have, you can always still take our LinkedIn Learning additive manufacturing courses, which cover plastic and metal 3D printing, testing, and more.
We’ll also talk a little about our K-12 endeavors, like our Make:Geometry book, which takes advantage of the ease of creating 3D objects to teach many topics more intuitively. Hope to see a lot of friends on June 16!?
