3D Mobile Internet and New Ecosystem

What's the next big thing? I think it will be the 3D Mobile Internet like Facebook's Metaverse or Microsoft's Mesh where you can "teleport" yourself digitally into the virtual worlds as an avatar that looks exactly like you. Some industry analysts call this Web 3.0. Although it is still in the early adoption stage, I can see business value of the potential use cases in the following areas:

1. Games: this is a low-hanging fruit for Web 3.0. Immersive gaming experience will be on steroids for games like Fortnite, Minecraft etc.

2. Social media and entertainment: Facebook/Instagram users will have much better experience in Metaverse. Another interesting example is a singer can host a live music event with millions/billions of people immersing in a huge virtual stadium. No real world stadium can do this!

3. Education: this is a big application area. Students will learn much more effectively by immersing themselves in the content. Wouldn't it be great to experience Vikings in virtual Norway if you are a history student?

4. Virtual travel: Metaverse/Mesh can build digital clones of famous travel destinations like Hawaii so consumers can experience them remotely and repeatedly. The same principle can apply to the house viewing scenarios in the real estate industry.

5. Enterprise use cases: immersive team collaboration, training, trade shows, conferences etc. will be a reality.

It will take multiple players such as AR/VR manufacturers, wireless carriers, network providers like Ericsson, platform vendors and a large community of developers and content creators to make the 3D Mobile Internet ecosystem successful.
