This is a image from our 3D AOI (Automatic Optical Inspection) machine and it perfectly shows the power of such a inspection system. The right hand image is showing a IC leg that has lifted , but from the standard single dimensional image on the left it is impossible to see this. It even gives us the height above the blank board, the leg is sitting at. Our senior production engineer, Michael Keens said "This machine is brilliant at automatically inspecting a loaded PCB, as well as giving a wealth of additional information about the assembly".
