39 Lessons I Think I've Learn At 39

It’s official— this meat bag on this spinning rock has went around that giant fiery ball in sky we call the sun 39 times.

Here are 39 lessons I think I’ve learned:

1 — You only get one body, treat it well.

2 — The more energy you exert, often the more energy you have.

3 — Doing for others creates happiness. Those smiles in those moments are precious.

4 — Experiences create happiness. Memories are more valuable than any money you have.

5 — Life can either be a comedy or drama. I prefer comedy

6 — We are all just monkeys figuring this out this thing called life. The more you realize this, the more humble you can be and empathic to others.

7 — When you root for others, they will root for you. Root for others.

8 — It is important to forgive people. Understand most of us have trauma. Understand someone else’s pain and you’ll have more forgiveness and love in your heart

9 — Silliness and randomness is always welcomed. Sing a song for a loved one (even if you can’t sing). Dance in the rain. Enjoy these moments.

10 — Don’t be afraid to give out roses to others. You never know when you’ll lose the chance to.

11 — How people treat you is often a bigger reflection of them than you.

12 — Time is more valuable than money. Don’t forget it.

13 — Money should never the result you want, but it can be a tool for the result you want.

14 — You control your emotions way more than you think.

15 — The illusion of how divided we are is bigger than how divided we actually are. Don’t let people manipulate you into hating someone else.

16 — Nearly all politicians are grifters. They wear two jerseys for the most part. And neither of those teams are yours.

17 — Do things that will make the 8 year old and the 80 year old you happy and proud.

18 — Following your passion is an overrated statement. Follow your skill. If you become great at it, you’ll like it.

19 — Focus less on changing others and more on changing yourself.

20 — Find the best way for you to learn. Every one is different. Reading. Audio books. Peer learning and more. Once you find the right medium, you can accelerate your learnings.

21 — Life is hard. Pick your hard wisely.

22 — Core values in a business are truly underrated and can be a game changer.

22 — Everything is 100% your fault. The more you accept this, the better off you are.

23 — Time is your most precious resource. Pick who you spend it with wisely.

24 — People are some of the biggest unlocks in life.

25 — Your reputation is an asset that follows you around for life. Be careful with what you do with it.

26 — Small habits can create big change.

27 — Capitalism rewards risk.

28 — Expand your time horizons. It will lower your stress and help you make good decisions.

29 — Stress is good. The more reps you put in doing stressful and hard things, the easier everything becomes.

30 — Choose your circles well. There are people who want you to win, and those who don’t. Get rid of the people that don’t as quickly as possible.

31 — It is important for you to have a person you can tell good news to and bad news to. They are not always the same person.

32 — It is good to learn from the mistakes of others but it hard to internalize unless you do it yourself. Be aware of this.

33 — You are capable of way more than you think but it often takes reps and time.

34 — Take adventures. This world is big and full of beautiful surprises. Get out and explore before you can’t.

35 — You’ve made it through 100% of your bad days is a powerful reminder of what you can do.

36 — Don’t do stuff based on what you think others are going to think of you. Do stuff based on what you will think of yourself

37 — Don’t optimize for being remembered. Optimize for living your best life.

38 — Kindness is way easier to give than you think and way more impactful than you think.

39 — Your family can be as big or small as you want, and it has nothing to do with being related by blood. Choose your family wisely and treat them well

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Belated Happy Birthday! I love Lesson #18 -- at least in my experience, I love the dopamine kick that comes with writing a winning promo. The writing wasn't my primary passion, though. I just learned to love it over time since it's the only skill I have that brings concrete results.
