37th Reflection: One Click Wonders.

37th Reflection: One Click Wonders.

Hello again, friend..??

It's another Friday, the weekend is nigh, and AI Fluency Friday [#AIFF] is here, a weekly journey to the heart of the AI revolution.

Today (January 12, 2024) is the 37th edition titled "One Click Wonders," a long way from the first edition on March 24, 2023.

In this 37th edition, our traditions of immersion, pragmatism, and active imagination remain, and for today, you'll be gifted knowledge of how AI can help you build a website in hours (skills), in addition to practical insights from my work in using AI to enhance business operations in the UAE and the UK (stories).

Before we get into the stories and skills, it is important to recall the last four editions of #AIFF: the 36th edition (Media Intelligence), where we addressed a global challenge impacting approximately 100 million users and a staggering 2.5 billion users worldwide: the Content Discovery Dilemma.

In the 35th reflection (Talents For Generations ), we highlighted the emergence of digital immortality and the possibility of producing AI-enabled VFX and CGI work for $25,000 rather than spending $25,000,000 for 90 minutes of human-made VFX and CGI work (≈ $280,000 per minute, i.e., ≈ $4,500 per second).

In the 34th reflection (Goodbye Prussia, Hello Alpha ), citing examples from Finland's superior education system, Elon Musk's Ad Astra, Khan Academy's Khanmigo, Harvard's #CS50 bot, and Vulcan Science Academy from Star Trek; we explored the golden opportunity for our civilization to raise the smartest generation of humans ever educated.

And in the 33rd reflection (GenAI and Future Elections ), we discussed how Generative AI has changed democratic elections forever, with examples from South Korea and the USA.

Moving into the hearth of the 37th reflection, we recall this paraphrase from the article "AI Leapfrogging: How AI Will Transform “Lagging” Industries," by Morgan Beller and Daniel Museles.

Generative AI is an instantaneous push-button solution. It can generate a legal brief, lesson plan or construction plan from scratch, and interacting with GenAI solutions can feel like chatting to a friend.

This expression above refers to the proven potential of GenAI to create transformative business value in many domains of work, especially in industries where protocols and software haven’t changed much in 20+ years and the SaaS revolution didn’t leave a mark. Industries that, quite literally, still use pen and paper, e.g., agriculture, hospitality, education, legal, construction, and manufacturing.

These industries are primed for what is called “AI leapfrogging ,” an event that occurs when an industry or market (usually an outmoded industry or emerging market) leverages AI to skip a step along the technology transformation chain.

A notable technological leapfrog (non-AI) is the jump from landlines to the mobile stage of technology adoption and skipping desktops (mostly in emerging markets).

Another non-AI example is the jump from cash to the mobile/crypto stage of value exchange in China and some emerging markets, skipping the dominant debit and credit payment methods in the US.

Looking closely, it appears that the mobile/crypto payments leapfrog was built on the result of the mobile technology leapfrog.

And for "AI Leapfrogging," it is built on decades of advancements in compute, data, and algorithms, to the point of achieving simple and powerful solutions that transform the method of creating and capturing value in agriculture (e.g., Seso , instant administration aide), legal (e.g., Harvey , instant legal aide), construction (e.g., Tailorbird , instant renovation aid), education (e.g., Khanmigo , instantaneous personal tutor), hospitality (e.g., Expedia , instantaneous travel advisory), and manufacturing (e.g., Matroid , instantaneous quality control).

Beller and Museles note that current SaaS solutions, though valuable, often leave users needing to re-learn their whole process,?unlike AI-powered solutions, which simply remove tedious tasks from the user's to-do list, in many cases, with just one click.

My experience with making a UK business website in less than 2 hours, presented at the end of today's reflection, attempts to materialize this new ideal of One Click Wonders. But before then, let's highlight an important consideration in the next section????

Figure 2: GenAI is superior to SaaS because the value of the change greatly outweighs the burden of the change.

This next consideration is the difficult truth that our brave new OCW world is not all sunshine and rainbows...?

To highlight this issue, I'd like to refer to December 7, 2023, my most recent advisory session in Cohort 7 of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund (MBRIF), managed by Brinc MENA (UAE).

My work on this day was helping the founders discover the best AI resources for building the next generation of their product (voice cloning functionality and Arabic TTS). Nevertheless, it became quite evident mid-session that:

all companies with digital elements in their operation, must have an effective system for detecting non-human outputs, or risk losing their entire business and customer base.

The above conviction may have been influenced by the awe in my audience after sharing resources for cloning voices in Arabic; I'm not quite sure.

However, I am certain that for financial service providers (especially banks), Gartner's 2024 top strategic technology trend—AI trust, risk, and security management, which includes content anomaly detection—is a non-negotiable action point.

With the unbridled improvement of machine intelligence (e.g., cloned voices capable of fooling voice authentication systems ), deploying systems to distinguish between human and artificial intelligence has become crucial.

In the telecom domain, China Mobile's Skyshield (Tiandun ) provides a worthy example.

Used to protect millions of people from a myriad of scams, Skyshield underscores the importance of collaboration with law enforcement to ensure that the efficient, cost-effective, and intuitive nature of today's AI solutions doesn't result in sorrow, tears, and blood.

Hopefully, we will continue to get it right by empowering leaders who act to derive maximum value from AI with minimal loss.

Figure 4: Gratitude mail from Brinc MENA.

Away from loss and to close the 37th reflection, here's the gift you were promised: how to use three tools (Vzy, Lexica, and RunwayML) to create a functional business website in less than 2 hours (£250 worth of value).

Using all three tools, Vzy (to generate site layout, structure, and content), Lexica (to generate images), and RunwayML (to animate images), I created KVL's website in less than 2 hours of work on January 6, 2024 [see screenshot and GIF below].

NOTE: The website is currently being reviewed by the business owner in Chiswick, United Kingdom, and will go live once all products (diffusers and scented candles) have been added to the "Our Products" page.

The workflow you have just seen is a confirmation of Kamradt's observation that simple AI solutions and a well-defined workflow can make a world of difference.

We have preached this same gospel of Applied AI since November 6, 2022, and worked with hundreds of business leaders and professionals since March 2023 via our world-class programme (Applied AI for Business Leaders ) to know that many business functions, including yours, are "One Click Wonders" away from magical productivity and profit levels.

10x or 100x, the revolution is being televised.

This has been the 37th reflection on AI Fluency Friday (#AIFF). I am Orakwe John, MBA , and I collaborate with global businesses and institutions to envision and build the future. If you're ready to be part of the growing list of AI-powered businesses, business leaders, and professionals with whom I'll be crafting AI success by 2024, reach out, drop a message, and let's forge a legacy together.

Please Note:

Our new program, Generative AI for Business Leaders , is now live. It is designed to help you understand why a 7-billion-parameter model (AdaptLLM-7B, built with ~$100) performs better than a 50-billion-parameter model (BloombergGPT, built with millions of dollars) and how you can leverage this phenomenon of algorithmic progress.

*

Or why has Ericsson, in the last 3 years, transformed ~15,000 telecom experts into AI and data science experts? What do they see? Which framework are they using?

*

Or more importantly, why could Amazon's $4 billion investment in Anthropic (September 2023) be worth as much as $8 billion in the next year (September 2024)?

*

Or what are the examples of $5,000 jobs that AI can now do for fractions of the cost, and how can you discover many such opportunities in your business functions?

*

Generative AI for Business Leaders is packed with world-class nuggets from experts like Li Jiang (Stanford’s AIRE director), Amy Webb (NYU Stern School of Business), Roberto Ferraro (IESE), and Jeroen Kraajenbrink (Strategy Inc.), along with practical insights from the World Economic Forum, McKinsey, Microsoft, Bloomberg Research, Emerj, LXT AI, OpenAI, and others.

As always, we guarantee that the investment is minute compared to the ROI of spearheading your personal and organizational AI transformation.
