37,000 feet in the air… and I jumped!

Earlier this week I was reminded of when I handed in my resignation for my last ever 9-5 job.

37,000 feet in the air… and I jumped. There was never going to be a better time.

I was flying back to Cebu, Philippines (where I lived for 18-years) after a month in Miami with my last ever boss.

As my bum started going numb in the seat, and I sat chewing over the month’s worth of stuff I’d put up with, I realised enough was enough. That’s how fast the laptop came out and my resignation letter materialised in the Word doc that would change my life forever. The moment we touched down in Hong Kong and the laptop connected to the airport WiFi, I sent that letter. No ifs, no buts… and only the slightest bit of trepidation hesitation. After all, I had nothing to fall back on. This was a great job (on paper), and I was great at it. But the time had come to bet on myself.

One month later, I was done with that boss, freed from the Rat Race’s shackles, and firmly in the “sink or swim” side of life - you’d best believe I chose the latter!

At this point I had 2 young kids. The only option was to succeed.

After that, my entrepreneurial story began unfolding faster than that jet crossed the Pacific (or so it felt!). From a consulting business offering basic consulting work to a 380-person call centre facility in the Philippines, to today: multiple bestselling books, the Round Table Mastermind, hosting exclusive live events and an address book chock full of incredible people whose entrepreneurial dreams I’ve helped become a reality.

Looking back now, it seems so clear. There’s never a perfect time to bite the bullet and go for it.

But when you hit a catalyst, a breaking point, oh boy do you know it! That’s what I hit on that plane journey.

But more than that, that was the moment I finally started believing in myself. I’d been great at what I did for so long that I thought the only option was to do it for someone else.

If you've been putting off a decision because you're scared of the uncertainty, remember that taking the first step often brings clarity and opens up opportunities you might never have anticipated.

What got you HERE, won't get you to where you want to GO ??

Now… onto this weeks content…

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT TO HELP YOU

Hustle culture has been glorified in the entrepreneurial space for far too long.

But, what if hustle is meant to be a season, not a lifestyle?

Over on my Instagram I shared a short 60-second video on why I truly believe that as entrepreneurs we should embrace the seasons of hustle when they come, but also honour the seasons of rest, reflection and rejuvenation.

True success isn’t measured by how busy we are, but by the balance we create. By nurturing our well-being, we become more innovative, more resilient, and ultimately, more successful entrepreneurs.

Do you agree? Should I share more thoughts on this in a YouTube video?

Comment below, I'd love to hear your thoughts on hustle culture and what you’re doing to steer away from it!

What a tale, Chris! I can surely sympathize. Remember, uncertainty is often the fertile ground where great things sprout and prosper. Alex Belov

Not sure which is scarier. The actual jumping off a cliff into the unknown or the one you just described. You have to be really bold (and?mad) to be an entrepreneur. I've only dipped my toes in so far. Nothing like your experience. You must have quite an adventure.

And here I was about to congratulate you on the first jump - I've done 5. Good hook, well done. And also I do agree. When you know, you know.
