#37 Being ignorant is ok

People I met often are afraid to say I don't know. Even I was afraid to say it. Because our society has ingrained deep consequences in our actions if you say I don't know. Starting from our school days, if you say I don't know, you may have to deal with serious consequences either you've to go out of the class or get beaten up by the teacher.

It doesn't stop there. It has followed up in our profession as well. If you're a doctor and a patient comes to you for a diagnosis, you can't say I don't know. The patient may lose trust in you if you say so. The same follow up in other professions as well lawyer, economists, therapist and last but not least developer.

It's not only us who are afraid to say I don't know, even the people who lived before 1500. Do you know? America is named after a scientist who has the courage to say I don't know (Amerigo Vespucci). It's his courage and acceptance of his ignorance in the available land on Earth that lead to the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in 1492.

Yes, it needs the courage to say I don't know. There are many burdens to carry around if you're pretending to be someone you're not. Let's throw off the burdens away and accept your ignorance.

“War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.” - George Orwell,?1984

We can't grow if we can't accept what we don't know. Let's accept the ignorance and use the strength of our ignorance to proper our ship.
