First Problem Play
Popular Sophocles (c.496 B.C.–406 B.C.).?Antigone.?
Antigone, an orphan princess, defies a king's mandate and risks her life to do her duty to her brother. What is this duty which her brother calls her to perform and the king forbids?
(Sophocles died at Athens, Jan. 30. 405 B. C.)
Today’s reading contains an excerpt from the play Antigone, written by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles.?The play is set in the aftermath of the Theban civil war in which two brothers, Eteocles and Polynices died fighting each other over the throne after their father’s death.?Creon, the new ruler of Thebas, declared that Eteocles would be honored but viewed Polynices as a traitor to the throne and should be disgraced in death by leaving his body unburied on the battlefield.?Polynices' sister, Antigone, wanted her brother buried appropriately in defiance of Creon’s edict.?She faced the penalty of death for defying Creon.
“And does not Creon treat our brothers twain
One with the rites of burial, one with shame?”
Have you been in a situation before where you felt so strongly about a topic that you took a risk to express your ideas??When I coach clients in this situation, I help them read the environment and advise them on less risky approaches to making their thoughts known.
Best,
Matt

2 年Great question. I like to ask something along the same lines when I interview candidates. Doing what you know to be right should be encouraged, and should align well in companies which empower people -like LiveRamp ??
