#357 – Our AMA Cadence

This week we wrapped up our quarterly Company AMA retro.

If you have been following along, we talked about our rethink of the traditional Company All-Hands back in Jan 2022 that led us to creating Company AMA retros. We then started a new Slack channel experiment at the beginning of this year to see if it might be a better solution, given it’s always available, so no need to wait until the end of a quarter to ask a question.

We did find the Slack channel worked well for real-time, in the moment questions.

However, the channel did get pretty quiet. We went three months without any questions and we quickly felt tension that keeping the cadence as a company to stop and reflect together was clearly still needed. The results led us to the decision it was a both/and instead of an either/or.

So the Slack channel remains open, with the ability to add anonymous questions in real-time, and then each quarter we open up a retro and propose three reflections for all our members.

I really like where we have landed with this combination and we will see how it continues to improve over time.
