This weeks thoughts: The Unstoppable Tinkerers
Innovation has no end goal. Today is my ode to the unstoppable tinkerers. Where the digital, meets the physical. Where the rubber hits the road. The unsung heroes of invention. The ever optimists. Having spend my week with in Cadiz Spain ???? with such an amazing group, you can but walk away inspired. Energised. Hopeful. Curious to explore new things.
It got me thinking. The difficulty of our age will be where the realms collide, where digital meet the psychical realm. This will need an endless curiosity, and drive for thinking differently. Keeping humanity at the centre, and maybe not just striving for an ever more optimised world.
A short story by me tinkering with perplexity AI: The Unstoppable Tinkerers
Once upon a time, in a quirky little town where socks were always mismatched and the streetlamps danced the tango, there lived a group of tinkerers. These peculiar folks were obsessed with innovation, but not for any particular reason – they simply couldn't stop themselves from tinkering!
The ringleader was a woman named Gadget Gerty, whose hair was a wild tangle of wires and whose pockets jingled with loose nuts and bolts. Every morning, she'd wake up with a new harebrained idea, like a self-buttering toaster or a pair of shoes that could walk by themselves. Her loyal band of tinkerers would gather in her chaotic workshop, surrounded by half-finished contraptions and piles of spare parts. "What's today's project?" they'd ask eagerly, their eyes sparkling with creative madness.
Gerty would unveil her latest brain-wave, and the tinkerers would set to work with unbridled enthusiasm. They'd solder and saw, program and rewire, fueled by a endless supply of cold pizza and fizzy drinks.
Did their inventions always work as intended? Absolutely not! The self-buttering toaster caught on fire, and the self-walking shoes took poor old Mr. Wiggins on a marathon around town. But did that stop the tinkerers? Of course not! They'd laugh uproariously, make a few tweaks, and move on to the next crazy idea.
Some folks in town shook their heads at the tinkerers' antics. "But what's the point?" they'd ask. To which Gerty would reply with a mischievous grin, "The point, my friends, is that there is no point! We innovate simply because we must!"And so the tinkerers carried on, filling the town with delightfully useless but endlessly entertaining contraptions. Who knew what madcap invention would emerge from Gerty's workshop next? A teleporting umbrella stand? A singing garden gnome? In this town, anything was possible when innovation had no end goal.
