This weeks Thoughts

The 3S+1P technique: The Candy Store “Mostly harmless, probably” ?

Easter ?? weekend! So a bit of a longer read, so that you don't get bored. The key message I have for you today: “Simplify in disciplined action so that you don’t have to wait for motivation!” The avalanche or the candy store of technologies. Perspective matters. It really is the best time for techies to live in. Overwhelming. Getting a dopamine boost daily. Technology echoes. Bouncing of walls. Growing stronger. While I am listing.

From Austin to San Francisco, from start-ups to Big Tech. From AI to Space to Synthetic biology. From batteries to proteins. Electrifying it is. The box has been opened. We stared into the depth of it. There is no predicting how this will develop. Remember a thing called “The internet”. Build, don’t destroy. ?Be doubtful, but optimistic.

Stop predicting start applying and playing with it. learn and do it again. Try and find out. Be scientific in your approach. Build diverse teams. Build agility. Build programs, not a kingdom proofs of concept’s. Build in some curiosity and fascination for a winning playbook.

2 years back I put this into an operationalised strategy for our technology practice, that I called this the 3S+1P technique: Sense, Synthesize, Share, Programs. I use it in life as in work but here is the work version for my LinkedIn friends.

Start with Sensing:

  • From Science to Technology
  • ‘When and With-What’ of Technology
  • Monitoring the evolution, the research, the ecosystem of emerging technologies
  • Assessing their readiness, relevance and use

Synthesize and validate:

  • Synthesising the trends and implications of these technologies
  • Expert input of our global networks to monitor, assess and synthesise technology evolutions.
  • Build a ghost busters teams: 10 Technology Domains activated through the TIV CTIO Network, and 9 engineering discipline activated with the CTOx network.
  • Engaging and equipping our communities with insights to fuel client dialogues

Share, share, share

  • The only way to make your ideas better is share them with others
  • Build the 1000 true fans, our Comunities of Curiosities
  • Technology Vision, PoV, Vlogs, Podcasts
  • Tech papers, blogs, radars, opinion pieces

Programs:

  • When learned, apply and teach!

  • Build Not one offs, but repeatable, abstract, structured, simplified
  • Research programs to apply, Technology Labs program to build, Teaching programs to upskill.
  • Yes the 3S part is also a program, networked insights you can call it
  • Feels contradictory, but being scientific about this give you freedom.

Stay curious ?? Simplify in disciplined action so that you don’t have to wait for motivation!

Quotes I'm thinking about

“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities. In the expert’s mind there are few.” - Shunryu Suzuki.?
“The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day.” ―?David Foster Wallace,?This Is Water: Some Thoughts

This weeks Tech articles

  • Space tech and Space laws... "In the beginning there was only one" but with the commercialisation of space there is a need to rethink how we operate in space?

  • Pacemaker powered by light eliminates need for batteries always love reading about applied technologies that are stretching the boundaries.

Curiosity read this week

  • Super short provocation by SETH GODIN: you dont need more time...

  • Bit longer read for the easter weekend: Isaac Asimov: centenary of the great explainer: The indefatigably curious chemist and science-fiction icon championed rationality for the common good in 20 million published words

Books I'm (re)-reading?

As short abstract of ‘Beginners’ by Tom Vanderbilt that I re-read:

“Everything must be for something. I tell someone I'm going on an eighty-mile bike ride, and they ask, "What are you training for?" I want to answer, "I don't know... life?" "What is admired is success, achievement, the quality of performance," write the psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, "rather than the quality of experience." But what if we don't want to become virtuoso musicians or renowned artists? What if we only want to dabble in these things, to see if they might subtly change our outlook on the world or even, as we try to learn them, change us? What if we just want to enjoy them? The idea of undertaking new pursuits, ones that you may never be very good at, seems perverse in this age of single-minded peak performance.” ―?Tom Vanderbilt,?Beginners: The Joy and Transformative Power of Lifelong Learning ?

Podcast episode I liked this week:

Feeling rushed, overwhelmed, lost, always out of time? Here are some great ways to build more structure, more discipline to take back your time.

Video I watched

Be a player not a victim.

How is the Custom Techguy shoe business going?

Greatly, keep making people happy, make someone smile.
