A printed book can still do something amazing and should never be missed.
I last made a written book report, when I was 16 years old and my high school teacher demanded it.
This time around it is a little different.
Does it matter that:
- It was the last book found on my father night table - ohh yes
- It has a superb dedication from the author - ohh yes
- The author is a nice guy and was a good friend of my father - ohh yes
- That the topic is about the world of architecture and city planning - ohh yes
- That path for this book was set more than 30 years ago - ohh yes
- The story of its foundation links to the masters Utzon and Eiler Rasmussen - ohh yes
- The foreword is by another master architect Jan Gehl - ohh yes
- That the title "Soft City" is an appealing title and the cover is stunning - ohh yes
Should you buy it and enjoy it from the above reasons - ohh no, but simply because it tells an amazing story about why great cities are great to live in.
My father travelled the world as a fighter and commercial pilot and I have been fortunate enough to follow as a passanger and professional traveller for more than 40 years and I have enjoyed the cities that works better than others - this book has only helped to understand the underlaying layers created by great architects
"To be a good architect, you need to care about people, because architecture is about creating the foundations and framings for peoples life and wellbeing."
by Ralph Erskine
The book was my fathers - now mine and sitting perfectly in the section with other books on the topics of architecture and design.
