3/16/23 Write a Bestselling Book that Will Sell for a Decade, Part 5

This is quite possibly my favorite part of the publishing process:?maximizing?a book so that the author and reader can take their relationship to the next level in whatever way works best for them both.?Optimizing your book ?can open the door to a relationship that lasts for a long time and is profitable and beneficial for author and reader alike.

Maximizing?your book provides a road map your readers can follow to engage you in a way that is both informational and inviting (as opposed to sales-y and repelling!).

Recently I shared how?You MUST Write a Book ?became several different products and therefore ways to serve my readers and clients. Just as?front matter?begins the author-reader relationship,?back matter?(content that follows the main content of the book) allows the reader to understand more deeply how to continue their relationship with the author.

Here are a few options for your?back matter:

  • Author Notes.?While the Introduction is a formal beginning to a book, your Author Notes are a letter to your reader that is more personal. When did you write the book? Why? What else was happening in your world at the time? It has a less proper and more conversational tone. Let's face it—if someone has read the entire book,?they like you. Give them even a few more reasons to like you!
  • What else you've got.?A workbook or companion journal? A course? Do you do coaching? Have a page or two where they can learn more about you and hire you if they'd like. Make it easy for them to ask questions, join your email list (if they haven't already), and learn more about the products and services you have to offer.
  • A fantastic bio.?Don't you want to know everything about your favorite author? Or even?really?know them? I know I do! I read and re-read their books, follow them on social media, subscribe to their lists, take their courses, attend their events, etc., etc. I'm lucky that I've become friends with some of my favorite authors, and later some of my loyal readers (I'm looking at you, Christine Goodner!). You can do this, too! All readers start out as simply readers—and they can become super fans who will want to know even more about you! Write your bio in a way that reflects not just what you've accomplished but that you're also a cool cat that loves dogs, dark chocolate, and a third and fourth ride on The Beast at Kings Island (or is that just me?!).

Maximizing your book means giving more to those readers who want more! I talk all about different options for maximizing the contents of your book by turning it into multiple income streams in?Building a Million Dollar Book Business . Being an author is just the beginning of the impact (and income) you can make with your expertise!

See you tomorrow!
