31 Work Tech Companies Gettin' That AI Money in 2024

We've Seen This Before

When it comes to Work Tech, there was a world before SaaS and a very different world after. Some very large companies blinked out of existence in the years following the launch of disruptors like SuccessFactors, Taleo, and Salesforce. They just couldn't get their SaaS in gear. (Couldn't get their SaaS together? They got their SaaS kicked. And so on ...)

Work Tech is Ripe for Disruption

Another transformative moment has arrived with AI. Work Tech was already poised for disruption before the emphatic arrival of generative AI. The market has matured, and there are 10 times more vendors than there were 10 years ago (with only a slight increase in the number of buyers during the same period). Despite all the competition, a few very large companies now dominate the landscape. Private equity has become the primary player—a sure sign of an aging market. It's tough out there, y'all. Been a long time since I felt sexy, you know what I'm sayin?!?

But now, with the explosion of agentic AI, the disruption has begun in earnest. Within the next 10 years, the market landscape will look completely different, with new leaders emerging. There will also be cautionary tales about large companies that misread the market and ended up on the wrong side of history, similar to the Blockbuster/Netflix narrative.

The AI transformation is only beginning, but it's already clear that companies focusing on recruitment dominate the next-generation landscape, with workforce management and employee success earning honorable mentions. Déjà vu? If you were around for the SaaS transformation near the turn of the century, you'll know that these same categories led the way back then, too.

Top AI Investors

The top investors in AI Work Tech are also not a surprise: Andreessen Horowitz , Sequoia Capital, ACCEL CAPITAL PARTNERS , Bain Capital Ventures , Workday Ventures , Plug and Play Tech Center , Bessemer Venture Partners , Kleiner Perkins , Lightspeed , and GV (Google Ventures) —just to name a few. These investors have collectively put about \$1.2 billion into the 31 companies below, and they're just getting started.

FWIW, I believe this is a watershed moment for Workday Ventures . I recently spoke with Barbry McGann over there, and I can assure you that no one is better poised in Work Tech to take advantage of the coming disruption.
