In 2020, the South African Revenue Service (“SARS”) launched the new Customs Registration, Licensing, and Accreditation (“RLA”). The LRA introduced the ‘customs’ e-Filing channel for submission of new registration and licensing applications.
The transition to the RLA system was announced as a mandatory required action for customs clients.
?As such, as of 31 March 2023, importers and exporters ought to have updated their registration and licensing details, i.e., to complete the RLA onboarding process.
RISK ON NON-COMPLIANCE
Non-Compliance with the transition to the LRA on-boarding runs the risk of??cancellation of any existing Customs and Excise registration and licenses in place.
We anticipate that SARS may grants some mini-window period to enable last-minute compliance. As such, to those that have not yet acted, it will be prudent to scramble to act before suffering the consequences.
Act!!!
