300 Logs, Taxes, and Patterns

300 Logs, Taxes, and Patterns

When you are doing a Job Safety Analysis for ergonomic hazards your best source of information is the current and past 4 years of 300 logs. Look for:

Names that keep turning up, this could be due to

·???????? Aging out of their Job Title

·???????? Incomplete recovery from a previous injury

·???????? Poor training

·???????? Poor physical or mental health

·???????? The need for an Engineering or Administrative control

Work locations that appear repeatedly may indicate

·???????? Awkward and/or heavy package lifting

·???????? Poor design, or changes to materials, work, work surfaces or work stations

·???????? Cold temperatures and/or wet conditions

·???????? Supervisors or employees taking short cuts

·???????? Lack of training

Similar body parts or injury types on multiple records could be

·???????? Same Job Title, different shifts

·???????? Same type of job in multiple work areas

·???????? Poor overall workplace design

Once you have caught up on history then set up a routine monthly review of the current log to add relevant data to your JSA.

?When you are in a business doing your taxes means accounting for where every penny went and sometimes you end up with repetitive financial trauma.? It’s one thing for the government to have multiple programs stashed here and there that do the same thing but a business cannot go into that kind of debt.? Usually, the duplication is a subscription that is automatically paid through a bank account or on a credit card.? Someone forgot we already had software that did that task or the employee decided they didn’t want to use the current software and subscribed to something new, and shiny.? Without ending the previous software’s subscription withdrawals.

?So, tax time comes around and you sort your credit card and bank account expenditures into multiple groups, Advertising, Auto, Office Supplies, and so on.? As you sort the duplication sticks out like a sore thumb and you start getting that headache behind your eyes.? You know the one, “If only”.? We had to run an extra tight budget because our expenditures were close to exceeding our income.?

?A lot of worry could have been saved if only

  • We identified why the current software wasn’t working before two people subscribed to two different services that did, essentially, the same thing.
  • Employee A talked to Employee B and/or C when the current software was found to be inadequate, or hard to use.
  • The steps were taken to end one subscription, remove the data, and transfer it to the new subscription so work didn’t have to be duplicated.

?What is this a Pattern of?? Communication, or the lack thereof!

?Sorry this is such a short article but……. I have to get back to doing (surprise!) my taxes.
