30 Ways to Turn Your Content into MORE Content (Without Starting from Scratch!)

"If content is king, then repurposed content is the kingdom." - Me, just now, feeling pretty clever about it
Let me tell you about my recent conversation with a coaching client - let's call her Sarah. She was lamenting about the "content hamster wheel" she felt stuck on, constantly creating new materials while perfectly good content gathered digital dust in her folders. "I feel like I'm reinventing the wheel every time!" she told me.
I get it. Oh boy, do I get it.
As someone who's been creating content for two decades (and yes, writing that makes me feel both proud AND old), I've learned that the secret sauce isn't just in creating new content - it's in making your existing content work harder for you. It's like teaching your teenagers to do their own laundry - once you've done the hard work of teaching them, they can handle it themselves. (Well, mostly. Let's not get carried away.)
Here's my "I've-tried-it-myself-and-it-actually-works" guide to giving your content new life:
Turn One Piece into Many (No Magic Required)
1.???? That blog post you wrote? It's actually 5 LinkedIn posts in disguise
2.???? Your workshop presentation? Hello, YouTube series!
3.???? Your favorite client exercise? Meet your new downloadable PDF
4.???? Those bullet points in your slides? They're ready for their Instagram carousel debut
5.???? That framework you sketched on a napkin? It's dying to be an infographic
Break It Down (Like Your Favorite Dance Move)
Remember how we teach complex skills? We break them down into manageable chunks. Your content wants the same treatment:
6.???? Take that 60-minute workshop and create 6 ten-minute mini-sessions
7.???? Extract your best quotes for social media (Yes, quote yourself. You're quotable!)
8.???? Transform your comprehensive guide into bite-sized tip sheets
9.???? Turn your case studies into story-based posts
10.? Create quick-reference cards from your training materials
I could go on (and I will) but first, let me ask you: Which of these resonates most with you? What content do you already have that's ready for its second act?
Ok here are the next 20 that I promised:
Remix and Reimagine (Because Everything Old is New Again)
11. Turn your podcast episode into a Q&A-style blog post
12. Convert your client testimonials into a "success stories" email series (because you’re BOTH part of the success!)
13. Transform your how-to guide into a printable checklist
14. Use poll results from social media as the foundation for a data-driven article
15. Turn frequently asked questions into a mini-course or email sequence
Cross-Platform Magic (Be Everywhere Without Losing Your Mind)
16. Convert your best newsletter into a LinkedIn article
17. Take screenshots of your video tutorials for step-by-step Pinterest pins or LinkedIn carousels
18. Turn your best X/Twitter threads into a blog roundup
19. Create audiograms from podcast highlights for social media
20. Transform webinar Q&A sessions into an advice column format
Seasonal Refresh (Everything Old is New Again... Again)
21. Update older content with new statistics and republish it (2020 was a million years ago, right?)
22. Create "best of" compilations from your top-performing content
23. Reframe existing content through a seasonal or trending lens
24. Turn your year-in-review content into prediction pieces for the coming year
25. Create "then and now" comparisons using your older content paired with current insights
Let Others Do Some of the Work (Collaboration is Key)
26. Invite guest experts to react to your content and publish their responses
27. Create roundup posts featuring community members implementing your advice
28. Turn user comments and questions into new standalone content
29. Host a social media challenge based on steps from your comprehensive guide
30. Create templates based on frameworks you've previously explained
Remember: Great content doesn't deserve to be a one-hit-wonder. Give it the encore performance it deserves!
Think about it this way: your content is like that favorite jacket in your closet - the one that looks great with jeans AND can be dressed up for a keynote speech. It's versatile, valuable, and ready to work harder for you. You just need to give it the chance.
Your Turn:
What's one piece of content you could repurpose this week?
Which format would reach your audience in a new way?
What's stopping you from starting? (Be honest!)
Remember: You've already done the hard work of creating valuable content. Now it's time to let it shine in new ways. And if you need permission to repurpose, consider this your official green light. Go forth and multiply (your content, that is)!
And I hope you’ll join me for my next cohort of Writing and Publishing for Coaches and Consultants where you’ll learn to do all this AND more! We start this month!
