30 Second Sneak Peak - Thank you notes

It always should be written and sent. Ideally sent within 24 hours. Keep the hiring team's buying temperature high. And my preference is to send each person you interviewed a thank you note. Yes, you should email the thank you note. Timing is everything. Okay, I am going to very direct here. No matter how great you performed in your interview, and you believe that the job is yours....write that note.  Over the years(while I was in Executive Search) I saw some very poorly written thank you notes. Some of them ultimately disqualified the applicant. It really breaks my heart. I had no way to defend the applicant because this was their words...their writing. How long should the note be? No more than 2-3 paragraphs. You do not unload your resume...again. You do not revisit an answer that may have gone off the rails. The point of the thank you note, in my experience, is to maintain a high buying temperature. Be grateful for the time spent, reinforce why you could be a fit, and lastly, close out that you want this role. Now you can accomplish all of this in 2-3 paragraphs. Less is more here people. What were the comments I received when hiring teams passed because of the thank you? Poor grammar, run-on sentences, incorrect information, I even had someone paste a past thank you note so it referenced the wrong company in a paragraph.  For you hiring managers, thank you notes are just a courtesy that can further enhance a candidates profile. Please don't rule them out because of an error they might have made. We are all human. We make mistakes so please be understanding. Thank you for reading and happy trails.
