30 Harbord Square Shortlisted for Prestigious Planning Award
The?Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), the professional body for planners in England, has shortlisted?30 Harbord Square ?for Excellence in Planning for Communities – a prestigious award recognising new projects of 50 homes or more that meet local needs, offer a range of tenures, demonstrate the high-quality design of buildings and place, and provide access to infrastructure and facilities for communities.
The project, which completed in September 2021, forms an integral part of Canary Wharf’s wider 23-acre Wood Wharf neighbourhood, which is providing a range of homes, leisure, retail and community facilities as well as new parks and public realm.
Overlooking Greenwich and the Thames Barrier, 30 Harbord Square is one of the first affordable housing buildings in Wood Wharf, providing 176 affordable Intermediate Rent apartments over 27 floors, consisting of studios, one, two and three-bedroom apartments, as well as retail use at ground level. The homes are managed by Canary Wharf Communities – an organisation that was set up to own and operate the affordable housing on the Canary Wharf estate – and are offered at a discount to market rents.
Design by renowned architects?Allies & Morrison , every apartment at 30 Harbord Square has access to a private balcony that is a minimum of 1.5sqm for one-bedroom apartments, while internally ceiling heights are 2.52m floor to ceiling (3.08m floor to floor). This increased sense of space and light helps foster a better sense of wellbeing. The homes also provide amazing views across the Thames to the O2 and east down the river, while to the west there are great views of the Canary Wharf and London skylines.

Masterplanned by architects Allies and Morrison and?Glenn Howells Architects , Wood Wharf is a key part of Canary Wharf’s wider transformation from primarily an office destination to a lively mixed-use neighbourhood with homes, restaurants, shops, landscaped green spaces, public art and leisure activities, including open water swimming on the docks and stand-up paddle boarding.
Once complete, Wood Wharf will comprise up to 3,600 homes, 350,000 sq. ft. of shops and restaurants, 2 million sq. ft. of office space, a leisure centre, NHS doctor’s surgery and a two-form primary school, supporting the new waterside community.
