AAPI Heritage Month was chosen to commemorate two key historical events: the arrival of the first Japanese immigrant to the United States on May 7, 1843, and the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869, a monumental achievement made possible by the labor of thousands of Chinese immigrants. These milestones symbolize the enduring impact of AAPI individuals on the nation's development and growth.

1. Julie Yip | Ananya Health?
Julie Yip brings over five years of experience in engineering and project management to their role at Ananya Health , where they have been a Cofounder, Engineer, and Project Manager since 2020. Prior to this, they served as an R&D Engineer at Theranova, LLC from 2019 to 2020, where they played a pivotal role in designing mechanical prototypes, conducting benchtop testing, and managing documentation and design transfer for a reusable N95 respirator during the COVID-19 pandemic. Julie also contributed to the development and assembly of seven medical devices during their tenure at Theranova's incubator. In addition to their work at Theranova, Julie was an R&D Engineer at Child Health Innovations from 2019 to 2020. There, they managed device testing and documentation for a silicone breastfeeding device designed for babies with cleft palates and supported product design and fabrication. Julie also co-founded Hapty Hearts from 2017 to 2018, where they developed a device to connect new mothers with their babies through the touch of a heartbeat. They managed user testing with mothers, formed partnerships with health organizations, specialized in branding, and secured funding through pitches and grants. Earlier in their career, Julie was an Undergraduate Researcher at the Cartilage Tissue Engineering Lab at UC San Diego - Jacobs School of Engineering in 2016. They also served as a Product Development Engineering Intern at Quidel from 2017 to 2018, where they prototyped a concentrator device for Strep A lateral flow immunoassays, reducing assembly time by almost 50 percent, and designed new components and fixtures using Solidworks. They also interned in Marketing and Communications at the UC San Diego - Jacobs School of Engineering, covering student stories, managing social media campaigns, and running the #ILookLikeAnEngineer campaign. Julie Yip holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from UC San Diego, obtained between 2014 and 2018.
