1. UNWTO 6th Global Conference on Wine Tourism. Impressions?
The 6th UNWTO Global Conference On Wine Tourism took place in Alba, Piedmont between the 19th and the 22nd of September. We asked Niklas Ridoff, CEO of WineTourism.com and moderator at the Conference, his impressions, the highlights and the outcome.
It was a fantastic combination of people, topics, reflections and fairytale vineyards all condensed into a few days. I have taken with me to Sweden many challenges to consider for the future of the wine tourism industry, and more importantly many new friends and contacts. This was a great opportunity to network with wine tourism professionals from all around the world and exchange ideas.
Well, sustainability was one of the major themes. It was really interesting to be able to hold the sustainability workshop at the conference and engage industry experts with different backgrounds in sustainability questions.?
Looking at the broader topic of the future development of wine tourism, we can conclude that even in the traditionalist bastion of wine tourism, the digitalisation of the wine tourism business is finally being viewed as a necessary premise for survival into the future, not simply an additional sales channel. This goes hand in hand with a generational shift in the ownership of wineries worldwide, as well as the demographic shift of wine tourism as it becomes popular with a broader and younger target group ranging all the way down to people in their twenties and thirties.
The conference gave plenty of network opportunities, both planned and spontaneous meetings arose with many individuals from all parts of the world.?The final note that deserves to be mentioned: Roero is an emergent region in Piemonte and during the 6th UNWTO Global Conference I had the opportunity to try some great Nebbiolo in the majestic Tenuta Carretta. There, I realized that even if Roero is still not on par with Barbaresco and Barolo, it has nothing to envy them.

2. What is the average age of wineries' visitors?
When it comes to the age of wine lovers and typical wine tourists, most of the studies claim (and the majority of people believe) that it varies between 36 and 45 and it is mainly represented by someone who is well-educated, has a good income and has high standards of living.?
Having an increased number of visitors in 2022 at WineTourism.com, we noticed an interesting #trend of more and more young people being interested in wine-related travels and visiting vineyards in different countries with the goal to expand their knowledge through physical wine tastings and having memorable experiences.

Torleanzi Winery
A "Vendemmia" (the Italian word for grape harvest) is one of the most fascinating experiences you can enjoy in Puglia during the harvest season. It's an entertaining way to learn about the local wine culture and production methods, but also about the local traditions.
