3 Ways to stay focused on your goals so you can stay consistent and build momentum in your business

One of the biggest challenges I often see people face is consistency and maintaining momentum in their business.?Does that feel true for you?

Maybe you’ll set big goals (ones you aren’t always fully aligned with) and run at them full speed anyway. You create a bunch of content, show up on your stories and send an email to your email list - amazing!

But after a few days, you haven’t made any sales, you’ve had no enquiries, and no one has voted on your polls - you start to believe it isn’t working. You start to lose your confidence, your momentum falters, your motivation wanes, the pressure of creating content gets too much, things start getting in the way, and because you think you haven’t made any progress and it isn’t working -?you give up.

After a few days, or maybe a few weeks of hiding and telling yourself you are the problem (insert - I’m not good enough/people are judging me/I’m not worth it/my prices are too high), you pick yourself up, come up with a new idea and do the same thing - the cycle continues.

This results in a few things happening:

?? You are putting a lot of effort in but not getting your desired results. This leaves you feeling disheartened, full of doubt in yourself and your abilities and comparing yourself to others online who are making sales, getting comments and running the business YOU want to run.?

?? An up-down rollercoaster approach to your business and visibility - you have pockets of intense creation and motivation, but then it can disappear for days, weeks or months. This doesn’t help with the algorithm in terms of social media. (Social media platforms are looking for consistency; the more consistent you are, the more chance you have of your content being seen by more people!)

?? Inconsistency means you aren’t creating any top-of-mind awareness with your audience. You aren’t reminding them consistently that you are there! Talking about something once isn’t enough.?To build that know, like and trust factor, you need to consistently show up, share value, show them what you do and sell your services - even when it feels like no one is watching. Your audience needs time and multiple touchpoints to get to the point of reaching out to you. You might even be confusing them by constantly turning up and talking about new offers and new topics all the time.

And the reason this might be happening is that you don’t have a clear focus on your business.?

Perhaps you don’t have clarity on your offers, your ideal client, your messaging or confidence in why clients should work with you. Because if you don’t have clarity, you are far more likely to keep chopping and changing, trying new things constantly and find it hard to commit to showing up consistently.?

Consistency is key when it comes to maintaining momentum and making sales, and the key to consistency is:

?? Having clarity and confidence in what you are selling, who you are selling it to and why they should work with you.

?? Have a plan, so you are creating strategic content with intention and purpose rather than just plucking content ideas out of the air, throwing them out there into the world and hoping that people will start falling over themselves to work with you.

?? Have commitment and belief in the value you bring to your clients.

Ready to start being more consistent in your business? Here are three tips to help you keep up the momentum in your VA business:

Set small goals, reward yourself and celebrate your wins and successes daily

Big hairy goals have their time and place in business, but breaking your goals down into small steps will help you stay on track when it comes to consistency. Small, consistent action adds up, so break your goals down into stepping stones and set yourself small achievable tasks to keep you moving towards them.?If you are always only focused on the end result, it’s easy to feel disconnected from your journey to get there.

When you only focus on the end goal, it can feel overwhelming and like you aren't doing enough, getting there quickly or making any progress. Make sure you take the time to measure your progress, see how far you have come, and reward yourself along the way, don't go in with an all-or-nothing attitude!

For example, say you want to create a lead magnet for your business; break the task into component steps - idea, content, recording/design, landing page, graphics, emails and promotion. Then tackle them one at a time!

Create the best environment for your own personal success and maintain momentum

When are you able to reach your flow? Your optimal state of focus? What needs to align for that to happen for YOU? Be intentional about knowing what things need to align for you to be at your best, and then you can intentionally create that environment for yourself as much as possible! It will result in a happier, healthier, and more fulfilled you, resulting in a happier, more sustainable, fulfilling, and profitable business.

For example:

  • If you don't enjoy?back-to-back calls, don't schedule back-to-back calls!
  • If you want a day a week where you aren't client-facing and you aren't available, make it happen (just make sure you clearly communicate this with your clients and be clear about your boundaries!)
  • Stop offering them if you are doing tasks and offering services you don't enjoy! (Really think about the broader impact it could be having on your business)
  • If you don't enjoy being pressured, avoid putting yourself in those positions!

Stop comparing yourself!

To avoid the comparison trap, instead of focusing on what other people are doing, spend the time getting super clear and confident on what makes you and your services/offers unique. Who you can best support, what value you bring and what impact you make for your clients. What unique skills and experience do you bring that shape how you work??

We are all like diamonds, one of a kind with our own beauty and ability to shine.?

Stop trying to compete and focus on shining the way only you can.

These are the first things I work on with my clients because they build strong foundations supporting consistency, growth and increased profits. Maintaining momentum in your business will help you move away from that feast or famine cycle and a flip-flopping motivation!
