Time pressure can be ?? a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can push us to rise to the occasion. But often, that pressure can leave us feeling backed into a corner.
It’s one of those sneaky forces that can trick us into making hasty decisions—ones that often come at the expense of our own needs. I’m talking about a coworker who suddenly needs an “urgent” favor that requires you to stay late. Or a vendor pushing you to sign on the dotted line right now to secure that “special” deal. Sound familiar?
And for women, the pressure goes beyond tight deadlines. Societal norms often expect women to be more accommodating and agreeable than men, adding another layer of pressure to say “yes” when we’d rather say “no.” When time pressure and societal expectations collide, it’s a surefire recipe for stress and burnout.
But, as Steve Jobs wisely said, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.” In other words, don’t let anyone else’s urgent demands dictate how you spend your precious time.
Here’s the empowering truth: You can slow down, reclaim your time, and make thoughtful decisions that align with your priorities.
