3 Ways Mortgage Leaders Can "Make A Difference"

To say it's a challenging time would be the understatement of the year. Everyone is busy! Busy is a good thing in the mortgage business, after almost 25 years in the industry I can honestly say there have been long stretches in my career I wished I had something on my desk to work on. 2020 however isn't one of those times!

In March of this year, I made the decision to start my own firm. I opened www.maverickfinancialgroup.com (a mortgage search and advisory firm). The timing is never perfect when starting something new, much less during the outbreak of a global pandemic. I did it however with my whole heart and whole lot of prayers and it has been the best decision I've ever made in my career. I'm blessed to be partnered with some of the best Mortgage Companies in America and I'm honored to be able to help them with their production and operations growth needs.

When I put my business plan together (2 years in the making) I decided early on that I wanted to use my 25 years of experience from being a Loan Officer to Branch Manager to Regional roles and eventually leading National Production to "Make a Difference" in the lives of those I now serve through my own company. For the companies we partner with, we strive to be a true partner, one that they are proud to be associated with. For the candidates we represent, we strive to counsel, educate and align them with companies that truly support their goals.

The three ways I see Mortgage Leaders "Making A Difference" in the marketplace right are:

  1. Being Visible. The best of the best are on the front lines during this unprecedented time. They are "with the people" in the operations centers, in the branches, on zoom calls, and on social media. They are leading from the front with positivity, energy, empathy and providing hope for those they are entrusted to lead.
  2. Being Honest. There is probably not a single person in the mortgage industry right now that isn't stressed out with their workload, the challenges of a remote environment or something beyond that with their ever-changing home life, school choices and families to care for. The best leaders are embracing that head-on and listening to their employees, offering solutions and support and showing they truly care...not just about the numbers but the people.
  3. Showing Love. Love Wins. Every. Time. The true leaders in our industry get this and are loving on the people in their organizations now more than ever. They find little and big ways to show love to their teams, their vendors, even the competition. The best leaders aren't talking trash about their opposition but instead leading from the heart and finding ways to work together to propel their companies and our industry forward during a time of great challenge and rapid, sometimes daily change.

From the numbers I'm hearing out there, July will be another record month for many companies and many individuals who are working harder than ever before. I challenge everyone to Be Visible, Be Honest, and Show Love as you lead from the front.
