3 Ways Middle-Aged Men Can Improve Their Health, Wealth & Relationships

Welcome to Renegade Man?–?The newsletter for middle-aged men who want to create lives of strength, abundance and purpose.
I run training and development programmes for engineering, manufacturing and industrial technology companies who want to improve their sales performance. However, all the sales success in the world is pointless if it comes at the cost of your physical, financial and spiritual health.
So, every week, you'll get practical ideas for improving your health, wealth and relationships.
Here are today's three...
1). Health –?Is sitting at a desk destroying your posture?
You've probably seen older men with hunched backs whose heads are permanently pitched forward towards the floor.
Stooping as you get older doesn't happen over night and is not inevitable.
It's the accumulated result of years of poor posture slowly and imperceptibly altering the structure and alignment of your body and, in particular, your upper spine.
One of the biggest culprits is sitting at a desk with your head pitched forwards towards the screen for prolonged periods of time; without any counteracting movement or stretches.
Gradually, after enough hunching forward, you lose the ability to fully straighten up again.
These three exercises will help combat the effects and keep you upright into your old age.
–?Thoracic extension dip stretch
–?Bar hangs
–?Shoulder mobility towel stretch
2). Wealth –?Do you have the right mindset for building wealth?
If you're interested in building wealth, Morgan Housel is a goldmine of insights. Here are three powerful quotes to help quide your saving and investing:
Care less what others think
“Savings can be created by spending less. You can spend less if you desire less. And you will desire less if you care less about what others think of you.” –?Morgan Housel
The role of ego in building wealth
“Less ego, more wealth. Saving money is the gap between your ego and your income, and wealth is what you don’t see. So wealth is created by suppressing what you could buy today in order to have more stuff or more options in the future. No matter how much you earn, you will never build wealth unless you can put a lid on how much fun you can have with your money right now, today.” –?Morgan Housel
The power of compounding
“Compounding works best when you can give a plan years or decades to grow. This is true for not only savings but careers and relationships. Endurance is key. And when you consider our tendency to change who we are over time, balance at every point in your life becomes a strategy to avoid future regret and encourage endurance.” – Morgan Housel
If you haven't checked out any of Morgan's books, podcasts or interview, his interview on the Modern Wisdom podcast is well worth a listen.
3). Relationships –?Are you nurturing the right relationships?
I'll leave you with a thought about relationships. It might not be ideal but it's possible to imagine having a fulfilling life without a romantic relationship. Imaging a fulfilling life without friends is, on the other, much harder.
According to the 2024 research by the Survey Center for American Life, 15% of men in the US report having no close friendships. According to the Guardian newspaper, a quarter of British men say they have no close mates.
Whatever you do when it comes to relationships, don't neglect your friends.
Until next week, onwards!

2 个月Those who rely on the state to solve their problems are basically relying on an abuser to protect them. My dad had a health problem for 15 years. Asked countless NHS drs for help and they all said "you don't have a problem". I spent £600 so he could see a specialist in Croatia for a different issue, they noticed his other problem themselves, ran tests on the spot, and 2 days later had a diagnosis, and started him on medication. When he went back to his NHS GP, told them about it, and they didn't even know it was a thing. Not only that, when he showed them the results, they got angry he went outside the system and said if he wants the medication in the UK he needs to go to an NHS specialist. So when he went back to Croatia, got a years prescription and came back to the UK. And in the 2 weeks he was greeted with a letter from the NHS postponing a cancer checkup by 6 months. My point. Anyone who beleives in state reliance is living in lala land and needs to take action to become self-reliant before its too late.
