Is your job search going as fast as you want? Or do you want to go faster?
Here are 3 ways to make your job search go faster:
Stop Settling For Average:?You're not an average employee or manager. Unfortunately, you've been taught by outplacement and most career coaches/authors to undersell yourself as being qualified - and to hiring managers, qualified = average. How do I know you're settling for average? As a recruiter I see candidates settling for average every day, almost every resume I see, so the best resumes easily stand out.
Two places your resume undersells you are your personal brand and your work history. There's a good chance that you allow your personal brand and work history to undersell yourself during interviews also.
Personal Brand:?Your personal brand is the first impression you make through your resume or during an interview, but you've been taught to just brand yourself as qualified. Again, portraying yourself as qualified shows employers that you're average.
During The Great Resignation, employers expect 5-10 qualified candidates competing for each interview spot, so you face many qualified competitors. To make your job search faster, you need to do more than other qualified candidates - A great way is to brand yourself as the superior candidate. Create the first impression that you understand, have already solved and anticipate the hiring manager's current needs (And job descriptions never show the hiring manager's current needs - they werw written more than a year ago).
Average Work History:?The average candidate's work history describes job responsibilities. Job descriptions paint you as average, because they describe what you're supposed to do.

To rise above the average candidates, you've got to show employers how well you did your job, rather than just what you were supposed to do. To stand out and make your job search go faster, describe the impact you had on your teams, departments, and companies. Let the average candidates describe what they were supposed to do, and have employers guess if they were a huge success, massive failure or just average.
