3 ways to make sure your next career move is the right move.
It’s January. It’s really cold outside.
You ate far too much over Christmas and the New Year diet has already gone to pot.
I get it.
I’m still trying to lose the weight I put on after I overdid on white Toblerones at Christmas.
And that was 5 years ago.
(It doesn’t help that they are already stocking Cadbury Mini Eggs in my local Co-Op. What are they trying to do to me?)
What can really give you the January blues is if you find yourself stuck in a job that deep down - you know isn’t right.
Maybe you’re currently in a role that isn’t for you?
Maybe you’re currently in a role that doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere?
Or maybe you think that there simply might be a role out there for you at a great company with a great future.
Here are my top tips for anyone looking for a new company to work for in 2022, and how to make sure your next career move is the right move.
Make sure it’s a good culture fit
Ping pong tables don't necessarily mean that a company has a good culture.
Personally, I've always found them a bit annoying in the workplace.?
Especially when that one over-exuberant colleague gets really into it.
"Can you calm down Sarah with your ping pong paddle - I’m trying to have a chicken pasty on my lunch break here."
Social Media is a great place to start when you're researching the culture of a company that you're interested in joining.
Find out what the team are like, what they share and what their day looks like by delving into their social media profiles. (Don't just look at the company website.)
It's easier than ever nowadays to get a good feel for a company before you've even applied, by getting to know the team you might be joining.

Make sure you’ll have a good work-life balance
Nobody likes long days and stressful work enviroments.
Work-life balance has become a bit of a buzzword, but I think it's what makes good companies great.
If you don't have a good work-life balance then you'll find yourself burning out.
It's more important than ever to take personal time, switch off and relax.
Find a company that allows you to do this in an enviroment that is right for you.
Salesloft's recent decision to give lofters the choice of working completely remote, in the office or a combination of both - means that getting that work/life balance right is actually achievable.
Find out what the company you're applying for is proactively doing to make sure their staff have a fantastic work-life balance.
Make sure you love what the company does
If you don't love (or see yourself being able to love) what the company does then don't apply.
You'll find yourself loosing focus and ulitmately you won't be happy in your role.
The spirit of a team comes from them believing in the mission statement of a company. And to believe in that mission statement, you have to be on board with the vlaues of the company.
Find out what the values are before applying. Speak to a current employee and ask them what the values mean to them personally.
(You'll soon find out if the team actually believe in the values. Or even know what they are!)
I posted this video recently about some of the open roles we have available here at Salesloft in London.
If you'd like to learn more about working for a company that has a great culture, will give you an amazing work-life balance (#unlimitedholidays, #workfromhome) and has a mission statement that the entire team believes in.

We're hiring. Did I make that clear?
