3 Ways to make networking simple, easy and fun
We all know that having a good network makes it easier to find a job, do that job well, and advance to the next level.
Yet, we often don’t take action to build and nurture this valuable asset because it can be time-consuming and feel overwhelming.
If you feel this way too, then I want to share a way to reframe networking: it’s about building a community of support.
When you reframe networking like this, you can see it doesn’t have to take place at a big cocktail party or conference. And it doesn’t require you to work the room, schmooze, or collect business cards.
Even better, you can build your community of support by sprinkling simple activities into your daily routine and even making it fun.
Here are 3 easy and stress-free ways to build your community of support
1. Host a dinner party
Instead of 1-on-1 coffee meetings, consider a curated dinner instead. My friend and bestselling author Dorie Clark is great at doing this.
Dorie invites about a dozen people to a dinner and this lets her connect with her network more efficiently. And her guests get to make new and deeper connections with the other attendees in a relaxed and fun setting.
In fact, I recently went to a similar dinner hosted by Michael Bungay Stanier and had a blast!

2. Create Google Alerts
Stay informed and connected with your network by setting up Google Alerts for key people (or relevant industry topics).
You’ll be notified when news pops up, which gives you an easy opening to connect or reconnect. For example, you can reach out to congratulate a colleague on a new role or ask for their insights on the latest industry trends.
3. Batch your messages
Take 10 minutes to pick three people from your LinkedIn connections and send them a message or an email.
Podcaster Jordan Harbinger has a similar method: he takes 5 minutes every day to scroll to the bottom of the text messages on his phone and sends a simple “just keeping in touch” message to 5 people. This is an easy way to re-engage with people you haven’t been in touch with for a while.
Building your community of support can be simple, easy and fun!
Pick the method that appeals to you and give it a go. The important thing is to start small, take the first step, and keep going.
You’ll be surprised by how small actions can create big results.
What’s your favorite way to build your network that isn’t your typical networking event?

4 个月Great networking tips. I myself started with #Mission1000Coffees to build relationships with the WhosWho in my industry. Maybe it's time to graduate to the Dinner Party, strenghen the network and facilitate bonding within the network. And suplimenting this with messages would be great. Thanks for sharing this May Busch
