There was a time when I was so shy and afraid of judgment that I couldn’t even listen to my own voice without cringing. I would hold back my personality, hoping that by doing so, people would like me. But the truth is, trying to be liked by everyone is impossible—and it’s exhausting.
Not everyone will like you, and that’s OK. In fact, can you imagine how tiring it would be if everyone in the world fell in love with you? It’s tempting to mold yourself into what you think others want, but when you do that, you risk losing the very things that make you unique.
The journey to confidence, especially on camera, is about embracing who you are. Authenticity is your greatest strength, and staying true to yourself is the key to not just surviving, but thriving in a world full of opinions.
Here are three things that helped me become more confident on camera:
1. Mindset Shift: Embrace Your Uniqueness
The biggest change for me came when I stopped trying to please everyone and started embracing my quirks and individuality. Confidence is an inside job, but how you feel about your look or dress does matter. When you look good, you feel good, and that confidence naturally shines through.
Instead of focusing on what others might think, I began to focus on what made me feel empowered. This mindset shift was crucial in helping me step into my authentic self, both on and off camera.
2. Practice: Get Comfortable by Doing
Confidence on camera doesn’t happen overnight—it comes with practice. The more I spoke on camera, the more comfortable I became. One trick that helped me was pretending I was on FaceTime with my best friend. This little mental shift made me relax and allowed my natural personality to shine through.
The key here is to be yourself. The more you practice, the more you’ll find your voice, and the more authentic your videos will become.

3. Be Open and Vulnerable: Connect Through Realness
Don’t be afraid to share your real-life experiences. Being honest and open makes you relatable, and authenticity helps others connect with your true self. Vulnerability isn’t a weakness; it’s a strength that draws people in and builds trust.
When I started sharing my own challenges and triumphs, I noticed that not only did I feel more confident, but my audience also began to connect with me on a deeper level. Being open and vulnerable on camera turned out to be one of the most powerful ways to build genuine relationships with my audience.
Moving from shyness to confidence, especially on camera, is a journey that involves embracing your uniqueness, practicing regularly, and being open with your audience. It’s about letting go of the need to be liked by everyone and instead, focusing on being true to who you are.
