3 Ways to Get Out from Under the Holiday Blues
3 Ways to Get Out from Under the Holiday Blues
Do you have the holiday blues? Well, you are one of many people who get caught in this trap. There can be many reasons why a person is low at this time of year. Let’s explore some options and what you can do about them!
- Have you ever heard of seasonal affective disorder (SAD)? It’s a kind of depression that often comes right when winter is starting and goes away in the spring. You might feel depressed, hopeless, worthless, and have low energy. You might even be having trouble sleeping. Many people can take Vitamin D to relieve these symptoms, and they can also do some special light therapy (Vitamin D comes from the sun or you can just take a supplement. Therapy may also help.
- Do you have unrealistic expectations, financial pressures, and too many commitments at this time of year? Then you are not alone. It might be time for a little therapeutic intervention, and perhaps go over your finances with a specialist who can help you determine how much spending you can afford to do. Time management is never more needed than at this time of year!
- Don’t forget the food and mood connection! Remember that grains and sugars are very physically addictive and are associated with moodiness, which can include depression, anger, irritability, and more. Especially at this time of year we are tempted by all the festive goodies which are so enticing to eat. We may not be getting the nutrients we need, and this can further affect our mood.
Remember – it is important to celebrate (and certainly not offend anyone), but if this means you are hurting yourself, then it’s time to come up with a better strategy for the holiday doldrums.
