3 Ways to Find Purpose in Your Work

3 Ways to Find Purpose in Your Work

If you’re stuck in an office all day, finding meaning in your work might seem far-fetched. But it shouldn’t be. In fact, it may be one of the key ingredients to long-term workplace happiness. While unique experiences set employees apart, these small steps make the path to purpose easily accessible:

  • Evaluate the Process: if your company isn’t churning out inherently innovative products, purpose can get lost in the daily shuffle. Peel back the layers of process and procedure, and take stock of where you fit in, and where your contributions fuel dialogues, questions, and solutions.
  • Embrace Change: change at work is hard to anticipate, but when it comes your way, resist putting up a wall. New roles, reporting structure and responsibilities are all opportunities to demonstrate your commitment to a career with your company or organization. Be proactive and vocal, identifying areas where your skill sets will help strategically solve problems and accomplish goals.
  • Take Risks: finding meaning in your work means changing your mindset and stepping out of your comfort zone. Complacency can be a roadblock to happiness, and it can also be a barrier to self-awareness and organizational growth. Tapping into passion can be infectious -- use it to push boundaries and explore unconventional solutions.

The journey toward purpose is both personal and never-ending. Finding meaning in your work as your career evolves is critical in staying engaged with the task at-hand and ultimately making a difference.
