3 Ways to Not Enjoy Our Heat Wave
It’s the great topic of conversation in Ireland.
We’ve had a heat wave for the last week and everyone is talking about it. It cracks me up on a regular basis – people’s mindset around the weather. It says a lot about their outlook on life.
Exhibit A: Yesterday in my local supermarket
“It’s a scorching day out there,” I said
“At least it’s not raining anyway,” said the assistant. (It’s one of the warmest days of the year but don’t worry, I’ll make sure I mention the rain anyway).
Exhibit B: On numerous occasions in April
“Hope you’re enjoying the nice weather,” I said.
“This is powerful but I’m afraid this is going to be our summer,” said the assistant.
?(This is April and we haven’t got near May, June, July or August but Mr Optimistic reckons our summer will end on the 30th April).
Exhibit C Last year in the middle of our finest summer for twenty years
“The weather is great but we’d want it. Do you remember last summer? We nearly got washed away. It was unbelievable!” said my client.
We might be after three months of constant sunshine but don’t worry, I’ll make sure I mention all that rain from last year.
I hear these types of comments all the time. Now you might think people are just being polite and making conversation. I would view it differently.
They are born pessimists, glass half empty type of people. Their beliefs influence everything in their lives. What they do. Where they work. What they earn. Who they marry. And so on.

‘What’s that got to do with me?’ you may well be asking. ‘Everything,’ is the answer.
?Studies have found that only 1 in 100 business owners ever reach financial independence.
That means they could stop work tomorrow and never worry about money again. The other 99% vary from struggling to just doing ok. The 1% who are successful would not think like the people in the supermarket. Studies have found the 1% are not better educated or intelligent than the 99%. But they do think and act differently. Some are born that way but most work on improving how they think. They become more aware of any self-limiting beliefs and self-talk. Maybe their mindset in business was like those people in the shop but they became aware of it and changed their beliefs.
Have you ever had a good idea but then thought that you lacked the knowledge or experience to pursue it and did nothing?
?Test Your Mindset Exercise
How much money did you earn last year?
What if I told you that you could earn your annual income every month?
What is your initial reaction to this statement? Do you accept it’s possible and want to explore how you can do it? Or did you dismiss it out of hand and think, ‘That’s impossible for me!’?
If the latter is your reaction, then you’re more than likely in the group of 99%. You don’t have to be there forever but it will take quite a bit of work to make the transition.
Successful people visualize their success before it ever happens. And they have a strong belief that it will happen. This preview of their future life is what gets them through the tough times. It helps them make the right decisions.
We need to change on the inside before our outer world will change.
Your attitude to the weather, the government and your neighbour’s dog can be all be an indication of your mindset. To be successful in business, you must have the right mindset.
