What kills the sense of fulfilment faster than anything?
Comparison.
Comparison is the thief of joy .
It’s the thief that hides the exceptional, highlights the shortfall.
The shortfalls become the limitations.
Resulting in limitations becoming the fixed mind set.
We spend an exorbitant amount of time caught in our own thoughts, confined by the boxes and limitations that others have taught us to reside in and in some cases (a perception of) forced into.
We spend our time pointing our finger at everyone and everything else – the ‘finger of blame’ wielding it like some destructive laser beam attempting to slice through all our problems. Yet, as we slice through one, like beheading a Hydra 7 more problems appear in its place.
In return for doing what we’ve always done we simply get more of what we’ve got, resulting in more heads rearing up and the fight becoming harder, more intense and frustrating.
We continue to battle, we continue to rage. Our work life bleeds into our home life, our home life rolls back into our work life and nothing really sparks any joy.
Uninspired, fuelled purely on willpower and external motivators, the double time over time, the incentives, the obligations – yet after a while this fuel runs low, the tank runs dry and the car grind to a halt.
The body exhausted by the victim mind set. Drained, depleted and left behind.
The Solution – You take the Lead!
Really? Absolutely – stop waiting for someone else to take the lead and you get out there and lead you, and others.
Rather than pointing the finger at everything that is wrong we need to change the direction and focal point of what we’re aiming at.
There are too many people reliant on the system the way it is, the model is being perpetuated by multitudes of people that require it to stay in place as they define themselves by it and their relation to it.
They believe that a so called job title makes them who they are – so the finger pointing is only making them feel more threatened that you are a boat rocker, the terrorist in the ranks, rot that needs to be cut out.
When you point at where you want to be, how you’re going there and who you’re bringing to make it happen – you can shift the thinking from victim, ego, self-centredness to that of growth, ethno-orientated, community spiritedness.
Questions to make this happen -
Where you want to be?
- Where do you want to be in 1 year, 2 years, 5 years even 50 years? Whether professional and/or personally. Start thinking about what your ideal future really is. Get depth and detail, have fun digging into your aspirations and thinking.
- What do you want to surround yourself with on a daily basis, what sort of conversations do you want be holding and facilitating?
- How do you want to parent and interact with your children or grandchildren born or yet to be? Who is in your peerage, on your board of directors in your master minds?
- What sort of job? What sort of environment?
- How do you want to be working – at home, on a laptop, digital nomad, flexible working, 3 days a week, 9 months a year?
Start crafting an ideal future, start striping back the excess clay that helps you to reveal the master piece.
And it is not about what is realistic, it is about what you want to include in this – in your life and how you want to direct it. Just because someone else can’t see it, doesn’t mean it cannot be done.
How you’re going there?
“It’s not about achieving the goal it’s about the person you have to become in order to make the goal a reality”
- What do you need to learn in order to bring it about?
- Who do you need to learn from? - Seeing the teacher in everybody is the route to mastery and the fastest steer to eliminate comparison.
- What language choices do you need to adopt and adapt? Listen to the language those in similar places use. How do your prospective clients speak, what circle do they move in?
- What books do you need to absorb, what ideas do you need to bring to the forefront of your thought? Smash ideas together and start to expand and create new thoughts
- What is the best vehicle to make the goal happen – what career steps are required in order to bring this to life? Start creating the plan and get it on paper.
When we set incredible goals it isn’t necessarily about knowing the how. It’s not about having every step perfect, it’s about understanding what the next step is and how that lines us up with next and the next and so on.
We can start to build a map, at the same time we can use the map to show us alternate routes when certain things don’t work. What would the person I’m becoming do right now in this moment to move forward.
Who you’re bringing?
- What do you give on a daily basis to everyone around you?
- What’s the solution you bring that no one else does?
- How do you scale this up to create the biggest possible impact?
When we tap into this, where we’re going and how we’re getting there gets easier.
Even in amongst the doubts and uncertainty it gives us the inspiration to keep moving forward because of the impact we have on others, how we grow our communities and the sense of fulfilment that goes with this.
When we start to focus our attention on the Where, the How and the Who – life takes a different slant, life gets a new driver, life becomes fulfilling.
