3 Ways to Avoid Sounding Like a Robot

Often, when preparing to give a presentation or speech, we use stuffy language making it harder for our message to get across. Sentences are longer, word choice is formal, and it just doesn’t sound like us.

3 Ways to Avoid Sounding Like a Robot:

  1. Record it. Does it sound like you? Or is it wordy, stilted and stuffy?
  2. Toss your script and rehearse from memory or using key points. You’ll most likely leave out the crusty stuff.
  3. Go to the text and underline key words. Take out extraneous language that’s not needed. Example: "So it’s only appropriate that before I tell you about it, you get to hear from one of our patients. This is Joanne’s story." Instead: "Here’s a story from one of our patients, Joanne."

By taking these simple steps, you’re giving the gift of gab to your audience instead of boring them to death with stilted, creaky language you would never use in conversation. Trust me, they'll thank you.
