Here Comes Our Study For This Week
On the importance of having a comprehensive framework for understanding leadership in teenagers and young people. This can be achieved by combining the three V's mentioned in this article with the well-known three C's: vision, vulnerabilities, and value, along with competence, capacity, and character.
Here are the three pairs that teens and youths in leadership can?lead?through in April?and beyond.
- Vision and Competence: This looks like "plans and execution," right?. Vision and competence go hand in hand because transformative leaders who have a clear vision also show that they are competent in determining the course and objectives that they want to take.?Competence involves having the execution skills, knowledge, and abilities to effectively pursue and realise the vision. Teens and youths who aspire to leadership can develop their competence by gaining relevant education, training, and experience. Transformational leaders help young people hone their competence by providing guidance, resources, and opportunities for skill development.
- Vulnerabilities and Capacity: Vulnerabilities are closely linked to capacity, which refers to one's ability to handle challenges, setbacks, and uncertainties. Teens and youths during leadership may face various vulnerabilities, such as self-doubt, fear of failure, or external pressures. Building capacity involves equipping young people with the resilience, adaptability, and coping skills needed to navigate these vulnerabilities effectively. Leaders create environments that foster personal growth and development; allowing teens and youths to build their capacity to overcome obstacles and thrive in leadership roles is one of the key aims here at TYIL too.
- Value and Character: Value corresponds to character, which encompasses our ethical principles, integrity, and moral strength that define our identity and actions as leaders. Transformational leaders emphasise the value of integrity, empathy, and authenticity in leadership. Character development involves fostering traits such as honesty, compassion, and accountability, which are essential for ethical leadership. By emphasising the value of character, young leaders like us instill a sense of purpose and responsibility in other young people, guiding them to lead with integrity and make positive contributions to their communities. In summary, pairing the 3 V's with competence, capacity, and character provides a holistic perspective on leadership development for teens and youths. By addressing vision, vulnerabilities, and value alongside competence, capacity, and character,?young people?can be empowered?to become effective, ethical leaders who make meaningful contributions to society.
