3 Unexpected Things I've Learned Working for Grant Cardone

3 Unexpected Things I've Learned Working for Grant Cardone

In my 2+ years working for Grant Cardone, I've learned a lot. Below, I outline 3 things I've learned that I did not expect when I first joined the team in May of 2016.

1. Be Deaf

Before joining the team I had heard Grant say "Be Deaf to Negativity".

I thought I knew what that lesson was all about.

Then, I joined a team that consistently makes 200+ cold calls per day, sends 10,000 - 100,000 emails per week, calls people back even after they hang up on you, and a team that runs very VERY fast all the time.

My first week, all I could think was..."these guys and gals do more in one week than I used to do in a quarter!"

I could not have known the true potential of the negativity in the marketplace until I uncovered the true potential of 10x activity levels in the marketplace.

So, even though I had read "Be Deaf to Negativity" a hundred times or more, I had to go through it on my own for the first time. WHich means I had to commit, like Grant says, to taking MASSIVE ACTION.

Angry voicemails, personal attacks on phone calls, demeaning emails...and the list goes on.

What "Be Deaf" means to me now is that no matter what you encounter in the marketplace, as long as you are being ethical and doing the right thing to help your clients, provide for your family, grow your company, to push out of obscurity...and as long as you lead with VALUE...you can NEVER EVER let the negativity throw you off your game plan. If you've heard Grant say this, have gotten some negativity and haters, but haven't gotten the success you want...dive in and take Massive Action!

If you don't know what massive action is, and haven't read The 10X Rule, I highly recommend you start by getting a copy and reading or listening to it now.

2. Never Play by the Rules

When I say "the rules" I'm not referring to showing up on time, treating people with respect, hitting activity targets, participating in team meetings, dress code, etc...of course you want to play by these rules.

I'm talking about the rules of the marketplace.

The marketplace rewards those who are worthy, and the rules of the marketplace are being re-written every minute of every day.

Example: Most sales people follow up 2 times and give up. Most sales people "feel bad" following up with someone more than once every 3 or 4 days. Most sales people (including the old me) feel bad persisting with someone that has told them "no".

I've closed deals and built relationships with prospects that took 2+ years of follow up. My prospects can receive 5 or more follow ups in one day. One of my most famous clients has received 213 phone calls, 76 emails, 4 handwritten letters, 3 manager calls, 14 text message videos, 4 FB direct messages, 9 snapchats, 8 Instagram story tags, 5 pairs of socks, and 1 video from my Wife.

Working for Grant, we don't play by the rules. We don't even break the rules. We just create new rules. We know this is the only way to survive and thrive in the marketplace long term.

I've had bad months, walked in the office on the last day of the month, and thrown up 2 months worth of production in less than 8 hours. How? I make up the rules.

We ask ourselves....what's my intention? How would it be possible? What haven't we thought of? What's the worst that could happen? Do I want the marketplace to punish me or not?

I write my goals and targets down every single day and night in my 10X Planner, to keep my attention on the future. You can pick up your own here 10X Planner

3. Always Go Big

The perfect email. An eloquent LinkedIn direct message. A handwritten letter scripted with a quill pen.

These "silver bullet" techniques feel really good when you create them, but feel really bad when you get your paycheck.

At Grant's office, I've learned to Always Go Big. Thousands of Calls, Tens of Thousands of Emails, Lot's of Connections. Never one of anything. You have to push with 10, or 100, or 1,000 of everything!

Imagine you are in a room of 100,000 people and are given 24 hours to talk to as many of them as you want. You have the opportunity to help every single one of them. And every single one of them are qualified to buy from you.

Would you spend all of your time with one person? Would you pass out 10 or 20 letters? Would you stand in the corner and wait for them to walk up to you? OR, would you run around yelling your name, shaking hands, kissing babies, throwing flyers around, writing your name on the wall, and doing everything you could to be known in the space?

Always Go Big = Always Win
Go Big Sometimes = Win Sometimes.
Play Small = Lose
