3 Tips to Spruce up Your LinkedIn Profile NOW!

I've been using LinkedIn professionally right out of college and currently use it exclusively to drive all of my business activities, especially my recruitment practice.

It is arguably the MOST important tool to communicate with clients and candidates.

Whether you're in the business of recruitment or not, having an updated, attractive LI profile is advantageous in many ways.

Without further ado, here are 3 tips to spruce up your LinkedIn profile NOW:

1. Get some testimonials!!!

In my field of recruitment, where clients and candidates will absolutely read your LinkedIn profile, having legit testimonials from other people in your market focus or niche cannot hurt.

Request a Recommendation from your contacts

When potential customers click on my profile, they can easily see the 70+ recommendations I have from REAL people, REAL profiles on LinkedIn who I have helped in some way, shape, or form.

Each recommendation not only will tell your customers about your impact, but could also do the selling FOR you!

TIP: Testimonials take time to build up.

You must consistently ask, remind, and chase for recommendations.

The easiest way to do this is to integrate "recommendation asking" into your dayplan/to-do list every so often. Systematize this process so you won't forget to do this critical activity.

2. Write an article, post a picture, write a post, or share a video of you sharing your expertise!

You do not need to be a daily content creator with a huge following to do these things...

But do so you must.

1 video a month is better than 0 videos a month.

1 post a week is better than 0 posts a week.

In other words, start small and work your way up.

TIP: Choose your preferred medium (i.e. if making videos make you squeamish, write articles).

Don't overly judge yourself. Just post something, fer cryin' out loud!!

Marketing starts with YOU - you gotta do marketing, whether you like it or not.

3. Make sure your content is NICHE 80% of the time.

LinkedIn indeed isn't Instagram or your personal Facebook profile page where you can exclusively post pictures about your vacation or your latest coffee run any given moment.

Remember, LinkedIn is a selling tool for PROFESSIONALS.

Tip: Center your content around your PROFESSION and insights around your profession.

If you're in finance, talk about the newest IPO and your insights on the field.

If you're in politics, talk about policies and issues close to your cause/view.

If you're in marketing, share tips on how to create an effective marketing strategy.

Become an expert by showcasing your expertise on LinkedIn.

In Conclusion

It's important to stay on top of your LinkedIn profile and get into the habit of using LinkedIn to spread the good word about YOU.

Do this right and you'll see your engagement and response rates increase!

Heck, who knows, one day you'll see your follower count grow and others will seek you out based on your demonstrated subject matter expertise dominance on LinkedIn.
