3 Tips for Pivoting your Career in 2020

This question comes up often on Linkedin. Here are three principles to remember as you consider career planning pivots.

                                  Entry Level Opportunities

It’s like Drake said, "Started Entry-Level now we're here!"

Ok, Drake never said that, but the fact remains one of the easiest ways to transition your career is to begin at the bottom.

HR Coordinator and Recruiter roles are great opportunities within the Human Resources industry to consider. Coordinator roles are great launchpads for new careers because you often get the opportunity to work on projects with a cross-functional perspective connecting you with influential leaders across an entire organization.

Another pivoting pin-point to target is recruiting. Recruiters are a Business’s brand stewards or essentially HR’s sales department. If you’ve got the gift for gab and enjoy sharing your experiences with strangers, recruiting may be another way to transition your career.

                                      Education Opportunities

Global economists warn of an impending economic slowdown on the horizon. An economic slow down provides a rare opportunity for savvy professionals to hit the books and build out new technical skill-sets.

Linkedin lists Artificial Intelligence, Analytical Reasoning and Blockchain as 3 of their top 5 most in-demand hard skills. Advances in #edtech web and mobile applications are making obtaining deep understandings of niche skill sets easier to achieve than ever allowing you to continue working full-time while setting yourself up to be critical talent for any organization.

                                  Grassroots Opportunities

Many organizations are investing heavily in the communities where they have offices. They are hosting events in many cities to source talent not just for engineers and data scientists, but also for operations and administration roles such as Marketing, Human Resources, and Facilities. Platforms like Meetup, Linkedin and Eventbrite are great resources to find events in your area.

Pro-tips: If you meet a hiring manager or HR professional in your community, do a bit of research and identify a role within their company for which you are qualified so you can reference a specific opportunity when networking. Lastly, embrace relocation. Finding your perfect fit may require flexibility.
